BMW System V visor under rain at night

Same problem here in heavy rain at dusk, not exactly a misting more of a blurring of vision through the visor. It's only happened a few times as I've a couple of helmets I usually wear depending on whether I'm using the Starcom (System V). The only solution I had was to open the visor slightly while trying not to let in the rain, this moved the 'blurry' part of the visor up a fraction improving the vision somewhat. I havent experienced this as night only because I havent used the V at night in the rain yet. A PINTA no less as the 'blurry' area is right in the centre of your vision.

I have a Sport Integral that has the same problem. The effect starts at the edges and works inwards. I think it is the reaction of the anti-mist coating to excess moisture and is a precursor to actual fogging. Then, when you open the visor to clear it you get rain drops/mist on the inside of the visor and you are stuffed. This is made much worse because I wear glasses and can't ride with the visor fully open in the rain. And made even worse by Tobinators which let rain drops be blown up the inside of the screen and straight into your face.

Anti-fog visors seem to vary from total crap to excellent, with BWM being half-way. The best I ever had was a Fog City insert - but that won't fit in my helmet 'cos the visor passes too close to the shell.

There's always something, isn't there....?

Just quickly back to the SI. I have one as a spare helmet and I have fitted a fogcity. It works as advertised and doesn't foul the visor when closed (though I may have trimmed it a bit to fit as I dimly recall).

Still a poor helmet imo though

Thanks for that. I was going to try a Fog City insert but the BWM dealer told me it would foul the top of the lid. I will give it a try.

Interestingly (?) I also have a BWM dark visor for the SI and it is much better in the rain than the clear visor. Not much use of course, especially not in the dark in the rain

If anyone knows about this "double layered visor", please let me know.

Hmmm, have not tried it in any serious rain for awhile, am a bit worried for winter but that seemed such a long way away...

With the old sysIV you could buy a double glazed visor which had a bubble in the main area . I got one in Dublin a few years ago but found it irritating as the edge of the double glazing was within line of sight and it did not stop fogging...

the lining is not doing that well either.. I think it that maybe the helmet is not for riding in the wet. But I want to try the bluetooth out soon with my iPod...

Ordered the double bubble visor, hope I wont have to try it out for awhile was also told the Bluetooth retro fit is rounbd £240... don't think I would pay that for it.....

I currently use a S4 evo and I was thinking of getting a 5 for my wife and (eventually) as a replacement for mine. I'm a bit worried by this thread so I will hang on a while and see if there are any more complaints.
On a slightly different note Sorry its a bit off tack but can you tell me if the system 5 can be converted into an enduro stle helmet like the system 4.
I keep looking on the web but cant find anything that says one way or the other.

The parts needed to convert the SysV into an open face will be available later this month, Ralphy - part number 72 60 7 691 288 and should cost £29.50. The Air visor is 72 60 7 691 290 and should cost £45 - again it will be available later in August (current due date 19/8)
