I got a new tankbag for my gsa in the sales. its the motorrad gs one with the straps. Do you need to place anything under the straps to prevent scratching the paint or is it ok without? sorry if it seems like a daft question.

I’ve never had an issue with the straps or bag causing any marks. Just make sure you don’t put it on the floor and then onto the bike.

Just as Victor said. Just keep the base of the tankbag clean and it'll be fine. A small piece of microfiber under the straps can do no harm but again keep it grit free.

Sorry for the poor quality photos; whenever using a tank bag I've always used a non-slip rubber protection liner on any of my bikes. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Multi-Purpose-Non-Slip-Grip-Mat-Liner-Car-Van-Truck-Dash-Mount-Drawer-Gripper/262803774020?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20160908110712%26meid%3D3ab242dc5e8e4c8d8556daadd47784dd%26pid%3D100677%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D30%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D292894608958%26itm%3D262803774020%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2386202%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWeb&_trksid=p2386202.c100677.m4598

Around £2.50 for a huge roll that'll last for years. :)

Simply place the tank bag on a sheet of paper to make a template, then cut the rubber to the required size.
Oh BTW, if you wet the tank before placing the rubber liner, it will ensure there's absolutely nothing to scratch.
Furthermore, water will ensure the rubber liner will stick to the tank whenever you remove the tank bag or for refuelling.

Odd job, What make is that tent please?

My tank bag has marked the tank very slightly at the rear so next time I’ll use something underneath

Hi BDG,

The tent is a "cheap" Millets brand called "Eurohike" and the model is called "Kent". It's a generous two person semi-geodesic design, with a huge double entry porch; unfortunately this model was discontinued in 2011.

All my tents are very well travelled and prior to using the first time, I always treat with Fabsil https://www.fabsil.com/product-page/fabsil-gold; whatever the weather my tents have never leaked. :thumb2
I bought another three "Kent's" in the 2009 Millets "sale" when they were reduced from £49.99 to £30.00 each; there's still one new and unused remaining in the attic.:)

FYI as detailed hereunder, the nearest broadly comparable (practical design suitable for solo motorcycle touring) available on the present market (which I can also personally recommend) is a "Vango" model called "Tempest 200" around £180 https://www.vango.co.uk/gb/camping-equipment/750-tempest-pro-200.html. BTW, you'll often find them available online reduced to around £130

I'd also recommend to always buy a footprint groundsheet protector at around £20 https://www.vango.co.uk/gb/camping-equipment/640-groundsheet-protector-gp532-tempest-pro-200.html

Best wishes to you and yours for a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

As long as everything is clean and dust-free, there will be no rubbing.
However, keeping a GS clean spells boring.

For my own use, when I get a new bike, I cover the 'wear areas' with 3M clear cover plastic. It is flexible. strong against rubbing and when you tear it off it will leave no marks. I buy it in rolls that are 15cm wide and cut it in shape by scissors. To put it on I use water with a couple of drops of detergent added. This allows me to position the sheet properly. Then I squeeze the water out.

When riding for a few days without washing the bike, even in the dry, there will be road dust accumulated. The screen creates a low pressure area behind it, and this tends to suck road-dust like a gold-digger to a Bugatti.

Hi Oddjob,

Many thanks for the feedback, looks like a good tent especially at that price. My issue being tall is length inside the tent.

All the best for Christmas and sorry to diverge from the main topic.

Cheers.
