Just got a new BMW topbox for1150GS, the instructions say that the lock cannot be converted to single key operation for 1150 GS.

The topbox key has serrated edges on one side whereas my 1150GS has serrated edges on both sides.

What is the score, can it be converted and how?

It is not a case of just replacing wafers etc because my 1150GS key is too wide to enter the topbox key slot.

I'd take this as a substantial hint.

Mike O,

yeh that was my immediate thought - however if something can be done to sort the problem then this site should come up with the goodies!!

BigRon,

I've had a look at these lock barrels before when asked to code them and to date, I haven't found an effective way of doing it. One of the few BMW locks that seemingly can't be tinkered with.

If I ever work out how to get around it I'll be sure to let you know :)

The box originated on the K series, I believe, so can be keyed to that but not the R series. Had mine to bits when I first got it and couldn't see any way of doing it. Wrong barrel completely. Sorry.
:(

Same here.

The only way is to add another key to your keyring!
