I was on a site last night based in the US and there was a new thread explaining that BMW USA were telling dealers to replace switch housings both sides for free even if outwith the warranty period when bikes were in for service.

Needless to say I didn't book mark the site and I'm having trouble finding it today.

Anyone else read anything similar yesterday or today?

I'll keep searching in the meantime.

Here it is.

I wonder if we'll get the same offer...

Probably not, in the same way they aren't replacing fuel strips here but they do in the US..

I had both of mine replaced last year. The left had gone but Williams replaced the right one too!

Had my RTLC in for the winter ACF50 treatment the other day, and they did a Re-cal upgrade on my On/Off switch !

on mine it keeps dropping off cruise control that is when it engages, on the right side I used the kill switch once and it was touch and go if the switch was going to go back into the run position

same for me as Roadster. Happened twice though, one within a few months of getting the bike and then last year. I think with the FPC issue being realted to water ingress and the switch issue apparently the same, BMtroubleYou need to buy a tin of WD40

So basically fire a bit of WD-40 n the gaps of the switch units???

BMW RT1200 WC, 4300miles. RH switch unit replaced today!

Ridiculous they still haven't sorted this. For the cost of these machines especially. I thought the price I paid for mine (2012) was expensive however when the WC came out my mouth hit the floor. Really no excuse for this anymore.

Dunno to be honest whether that'd sort it but both the FPC and the switches apparently keel over with water ingress. It's not going to do any harm I would have thought and might do some good. It would be interesting to find out if it affects bikes that live outside more than those that are garaged. Mine is garaged but I might be a bit in the extreme side in keeping it clean.

"Apparently" BMW UK will replace faulty switchgear on bikes up to 5 years old (FOC).
They acknowledge that there is (or has been) a problem, and now have replacement units that they are confident will last longer.

We'll see.

The left side switch on my Twin Cam RT started playing up so I mentioned it before my last service in November. When I picked up the bike they had replaced both sides. Well done Barrie Robson BMW, York.

Here in Germany, with a May 2013 GS LC, I had the left hand switchgear replaced FOC when the indicator switch stopped working. I had them check the BMW database and it is only on specific build/chassis numbers that they are replacing one or both switches by default
