Hi I don’t know if this has already been discussed but now the gs has got too heavy for my old bones decided on a 1250 r/s . I’ve got the bmw verio top box and would like to fit it onto my r/s. BMW don t do a base plate to fit this so putting this out for you inventive people , can this be done?

I _think_ you should find that your Vario top box fits into the mounting plate for the usual RS fitting top boxes. I'm saying this on the basis of the 30 litre BMW box fitting the Vario mount on my GS. I don't have it fitted to the rack but it's mounted on the BMW Luggage Plate which replaces the pillion seat as you can see, here....

Thank you for your reply I will investigate further
Thanks

Yes the Vario case for the liquid cooled GS fits straight onto the RS rear rack.
It does not need an adapter plate or any modifications to rack or to the box.

There is also a 49 litre BMW topbox that fits. According to the label inside it is intended for the XR and GS but will fit after removing the sticky out bit off the base plate. Some dismantling of the box is needed in order to access two screws and remove the sticky out bit. After that it fits straight onto the RS rack. Suits the RS lines far better, in my opinion and I suspect it will be more pillion friendly.
Pic attached of my bike with the 49 litre box and a screenshot of the other guy’s RS with Vario.

There are threads on here (RS section) showing both types of box.

Here’s a couple of pics , showing both types, to be going on with.
The locks in both types can be reset to match your ignition key.

You will of course need the rear rack.

The irony being it doesn't fit the bike it was actually intended for unless you fork out the £100 plus for the adapter plate.

The Vario for the LC GS also fits straight onto the G310GS without modifications although It looks enormous.
I spent ages making a plate to allow me to fit a Vario off the previous gen GS , only to find out later that the LC type would fit.

Seen it mounted on an RS and it looks ridiculous, even the small box is ott. Ruins the lines of the bike. Only use the box when commute.

Yeah it does look big on its own. although it looks more balanced when the panniers are on.

Ive been thinking of going the Vario TB for my R/S as it slots straight on. But sudddenly realised that Givi do the Trekker too box which will fit on to the Givi plate. May look for one?

I had a Givi plate and Dolomiti topbox on my first RS. It lifts the mounting position up an inch and also seems to push the box further back than the BMW box.
