I took my K1200R to Cannons last week to sort out what I consider to be a warranty issue, the odd rusty bolt head (most are perfect) paint bubbling around the mounting bolts on the petrol filler cap and also the black engine paint bubbling on the cylinder head on the right side, close to the head gasket joint. The paint hasn`t come off yet, but you can press it with your finger and see it move. Is in BMW warranty to Nov 07 and has 6k on clock, not used over winter, kept in a dehumidified workshop. Was informed that it was not covered by warranty as has been caused by a 'chemical reaction possibly by something used to clean it' (soap and water?)
So what do you think I should do? Take it to another dealer? Live with it, its only a BMW (premium product?) Complaint to BMW customer services? Take it to Vines, the supplying dealer? Consult an independant engineer? Has anyone had a similar problen with paintwork and had it sucessfully resolved? john:(

Deffo warranty.

Just remind them about all the fork braces that were replaced on the 1150gs because of paint bubbling..;)

Get a second opinion at another dealer. I've had a couple of finish issues on my GS which SBW sorted out without a quibble.

Unfortunately Scotlands a long way from Norwich:thumb2

avoid

the `warranty prevention officer`at cannons and go to the supplying dealer, get it sorted then buy the bike you really want..:thumb

Stick out for warranty replacement.

Had 2 warranty claims on my 1150GS for paint finish. Fork bridge and final drive casing. Casing was actually out of warranty but BMW replaced it although I had to pay fitting.
This was through those "terrible" people at John Clark, Dundee. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Nick, which bike is it that I really want? I`m interested in your opinion, because you certainly have`nt found it! john :D

you really want R1200GS ADV... am i right? i`m still looking, but i think it`s going to be ............;)

Just had my filler cap replaced under warranty. And we dont use salt on the roads over here !

PS..... I share Nicks opinion about the 1200. If I get a buyer for my SE then I'm gettig one.

Your probably right Nick, although I also like the look of the 07 Superduke, although I have not tried one. I`m still content with the k1200R though and it would probably cost me too much to change at the moment, we are decamping to Sorrento in 2 weeks for my daughters wedding- very expensive! john

dont sell!

the K1200R for a superduke, you will think the superduke is fantastic for a month, then when it starts getting cold, you will miss the comforts of the BMW. Get the R1200GS ADV, good all year round bike, you wont need to fill up every hour! and with a nice set of panniers... where is the shopping going to go on a superduke?!

however, you could always buy a R1200RT not as fast as your K1200RS or your present K1200R, but still a great bike, and with 110 bhp it aint slow! and they easilly do 50+ mpg.

warranty claims

Bmw are replacing the heated seats on our s/h k1200lt even though are not covered by the warranty. So no problems in our minds as this is the second time they have came up with a with a good will claim .:thumb
