BMW warranty cost!!!!

Correct. I assume it's still a VAT registered workshop (as referenced in my earlier post)?

I thought that was the standard requirement to maintain and warranty.

I was told for the original warranty that I could do servicing myself as long as I used BMW parts.

When I claimed, the service man spotted the lack of dealer servicing on my record, but made no comment when I said I'd done it. They did the warranty work without issue.

But it isn't £400 as I explained in post 33 (it's only £400 if you don't use it). Also, as I didn't say, any cost under £250 (if this is your excess limit), you pick up yourself anyway. I would think that with the likes of Steptoe and Mikeyboy with our great part suppliers (such as James Sherlock) you could take the risk (not saying you should but it is viable). As for shocks, they aren't covered after £30k miles and cost little (no more than £200 each) to rebuild. Get shot of the Exhaust Flap by disconnecting or by getting some headers and you have dealt with two main risk areas.

But as already stated, if you don't take the rescue the cost of the warranty is not as much. My warranty was £350 a year with rescue, excess you can also choose how much excess you want to pay, more excess cheaper etc. The exhaust flap thingy is not covered by the warranty, mine was replaced on my RT 6 months ago, that was on a 2014 bike, I had to pay a £60 contribution. That was a good will gesture from the dealer. If you disconnect the flap will get no error codes when the bike gets plugged in. Other interesting point from my dealer was if a part is replaced and you pay no contribution, there is no warranty on the new part. Now not sure that is correct with a new bike warranty, but apparently it is true with any goodwill bits. That of course could be rubbish :)

For the extended warranty. I'm not sure on the original 24 month or BMW AUB warranty

That's correct, if there is no contribution then there is no warranty. Make a contribution to it and you get a warranty - my engine has a two year warranty because I paid 50% of the labour charges.

Mmm.....£1200 for three years, whats the likelyhood of something going wrong of that value in that time period ?
It is a difficult one

Not difficult I wouldn't own an LC without a comprehensive warranty

Do not forget the VAT registered garaged and oem parts.

real saving about £1600 over three years... thats another bike! which you could use for run of the mill trips, ie commute, run to the shops etc. which will reduce the mileage of the LC and further reduce the risk. And the best bit if you buy the right bike your 2nd bike could still be worth what you paid for it!

I ran a fazer for 10k (commuting) miles and never spent a penny. it came with free oil filter and oil. sold for £250 less, only because i cracked the fairing, other wise i would have got my money back.

Remember the warranty does not cover everything.

Don't forget the servicing requirements, rather than doing you own.

Edit: malcopopolo beat me to it.

as I said earlier, doing me own servicing didn't stop my two claims (albeit on the original warranty rather than extended)

one seized exhaust flap thing? - oh no of course that isn't covered - odd that?

Rear shock, £1800 including labour, not to mention one or two relatively minor faults (sensors etc.) costing the odd £100 here and there. I reckon I'm still in credit. But that's not the point, it cushions me from the shock of a large bill if something unexpectedly goes wrong (such as the rear shock) and, of course, I get the benefit of an excellent recovery package.

It does annoy me as it is stupid to install a spring loaded metal pinned plastic flap in the exhaust system with all the heat and gas flow associated. The one on my BMW 535d also seized and cost a fortune to fix. These days it is just for the EU noise regulations - get rid.

For those who think that the extended warranty is now too expensive and uneccessary think on this , 34 month old GSA TE with 14,000 miles on the clock and luckily with an extended warranty , been in today to have the bike checked as it has a couple of issues :-

1. front shock misting of oil on damper rod. (needs replaced)
2. rear shock leaking oil (needs replaced)
3, left hand switch gear U/S. (needs replaced)

All to be sorted under the warranty and without it with the fitting and recalibration I would be £3000 out of pocket.

Dealer has been brilliant and all the owrk will be done when it is serviced next month.

Shouldn't the real point of your comment be, that a bike with just 14000 miles should not need repairs like that. Maybe the dealer is just conning the warranty company.

No read the post the bike had issues which I knew about ie the switchgear not working 100% and the esa playing up
