Hi would like some thoughts on best
Exhaust setup.
Cat and Remus can or
Y pipe n stock can .
It's just I feel the full Remus y n can is
Running to lean and to noisy .
Ps also running a k&n filter

I have y-piece and standard can. It gives a bit more noise but not much (which I like - hate riding loud bikes) and I think still retained the slightly 'free-er' feel of removing the Cat.

I had cat n remus. Now running y piece n Remus. It's not offensive but does add to road presence. It sounds like a proper motorbike which, of course, the r1150 GSA is. It does pop a bit on deceleration. I've read on here that k and n isn't worth doing, but I'm happy to be persuaded otherwise.

In summary I like y piece and remus.

De catted with Y piece and standard can. Runs a tiny bit rich and occasionally pops on the overrun but turbine smooth power on my 37,000 miler :)

Ditch the can, run cat and stubby. Better low end torque and breathing. Barely more noisy than standard. Mine was a bit better on fuel too, probably because I could often be in one gear higher. Fuelling was great, sold the bike at 96,000, over 60k done with that exhaust setup.

That's how I have mine these days plus it's chipped and pulls like a train, particularly with decent fuel, good sound too.

I'm on a Y piece with a Laser can & race insert, sounds lovely but not too loud with just a little pop on the over run. I ran it for a while with the road insert which is quieter and thought that it was as good as I'd get but the demon inside told me to put the track insert in and I haven't looked back, sounds like a GSA should with about the same mid range and top end but loads more bottom end now :D
The plugs are a nice colour which is a good indication and the CAT plug is removed but I'm using a standard air filter as the K&N gave it too many holes & flat spots through the range.
If you want a quiet bike then it's best to stick with stock set up..

Great advice from all .
I'm going to try y pipe, stock can , stock air filter .

Tested today
Great with y pipe stock can .
Tomorrow going to clean / swap
O2 sensor as bike is surging a little
On idle .
Eny thoughts

There might just be a slight bit of wear/play in the TB butterflies causing causing your surge but if it's only at idle I wouldn't worry too much? If the TPS is set right and the throttle stops are tight (LHS stop on mine had slackened and was sending the TPS reading all over the place causing erratic idle...don't mess with them if you don't really have to though!) and the air screws are clean and throttle bodies are properly balanced then you can't do much more.
Check for air leaks around the inlets etc (spray some WD40 around there with the engine running) and if all is well and there's still some surging then maybe try to get hold of someone with a GS911 who knows how to use it?

Mike.

Same here. Just over 60k miles so 40+ with this set up. It also allows equal sized panniers if you need that sort of thing
