R1200GS oil leak from shaft area and clicking noise? I notified my dealer about oil dripping on my rim while the bike is on it's side stand. In total there was about two table spoons of black colored oil over a period of 300 miles/500K. This oil dripping has stopped but now I'm experiancing another problem and that is I can hear at slow speeds a clicking loud noise coming from the shaft area. After noticing this noise yesterday I put the bike on it's center stand fired it up and put it in 1st gear and could hear it clearly coming from the shaft area. My concern is that I'm 400K from my dealer and is it still safe to ride??

*Has any body else experianced oil dripping down from the rear drive shaft mounting pin or u-joint or trans problems???

Can I ever get my confidence back in BMW??? I had lots of problems with my past F650GS aswell.

Thanks for any info
John.

I friend of mine had a leak from the rear ABS cylinder that dumped oil all over her rear tyre whilst she was riding it.

If I were you, I would call your dealer and ask them what they make of it, pointing out that if it is a shaft lubrication or ABS failure (if you have ABS?) then there's a big issue of your safety involved...

Thanks for the info guy's. The dealer e-mailed me and said to call roadside assitance and have it hauled 400k down to the nearest dealer. There thinking it's the rear end?

Am I right in assuming that the new 1200 rear hub is "sealed for life"? and is therefore expected to last the lifetime of the bike without oil change or bearing renewal. (Unlike previous GSs)

So what happens when the bearings fail out of warranty? (Which they will eventually)?

Does the 'home mechanic' have to buy a whole new rear drive?

The marketing bumf claims something like "lifetime filling" (of oil presumably). I guess what they actually mean is "should last until out of warranty" :D

But the BMW service manual describes the procedure for draining and refilling the final drive. It doesn't seem to be that much different to older models. Although I haven't got around to actually looking inside mine yet.

Looks like the HP2 is back on the wish list
