Thinking about a body armour/motocross shirt for upcoming off road jaunts, since it gets quite sweaty picking up a 1200gs all the time.:augie

And Clive looked much less hot than me in his natty Alpinestar stuff.

Any got any thoughts on which stuff?

this
or perhaps this from bwm.

Could do with it in time for my level 1 in a couple of weeks.

I still wear my Dainese kit....the waistband thing is still crap but under a sweatshirt or just a light w/proof jacket, it's ery good, cool and protective.
It's been chucked down the road and held me together as well...and a 19 stone bloke going down the road is a pretty good test believe me :D

THIS thread might be of use to you :)

i just done the level one and wore no fear trousers t-shirt and body armour with a baggy top over it and a back pack with a platapus in ( a must) and don't forget to put a twix in the pocket for energy and if your really keen were your staying ask for ice and fill the platapus up and then fill with water, much better than warm water:thumb2 :)

Dainese :thumb2 at 10.5 stone mines not been as errr well tested as Fanums but after saving my bacon in lots of off's it's still in good nick :D The latest kit also incorporates some neck protection though not sure how well this works :nenau

Like Fanum I'm "muscular" and "waistline challenged" so found it impossible to get a "named" body armour jacket, the biggest they do is XXL and that just about fits my tall "slimish" mate, I need a XXXL.

In the end I got a no-named one off eBay, and at £35 it was a good buy. The jacket material is not as "mesh" as I would have liked but the armour is CE approved and well placed and fitted, it will do.

Got mine to wear under a race shirt ready for Enduro Africa later this year.

How good is armour / motocross at abrasion resistance if you happen to slide down the tarmac?

I guess not as good as decent Cordura, but will it keep skin attached to bone?

I went down the A31 on my arse (watching my bike spinning around in front of me :( )wearing some oxbow MX pants, and there wasn't a mark on them afterwards.

If you get good quality mx jeans they will also come with padding for your hips.

As for body armour, i've used a UFO one piece top, like a fish net vest :ymca , with all the elbow, shoulder, kidney and back protection fixed in. The pads on mine are neoprene backed poly-propylene pads, so should be very hard wearing.

I've done the WSM beach race several times, passengering on sidecars wearing this lot, and it's saved me during many occassions where you get run over and used as traction...

HTH
