Well after 32 years I'm looking at my first insurance claim, tank, rear mud guard, headlight, exhaust and primary are the main bits all scuffed up. What do you think write off or fix?
Not sure how it happened I had a front wheel lock up under heavy braking for a wagon in the middle of the road funny thing is I wasn't even intending to stop so it wasn't even an emergency stop, who says Harley's have no brakes, anyway all I've got is a sore toe with a black toenail and dented pride. It was a shit ride home from Yorkshire popping and farting all the way back.
The recently ignored GSA will be pissing itself when the Fat Bob creeps back in the garage.

Can I change that to a feckin sore toe.

it looks pretty straight, apart from a big dent in the tank it's just scratches but I know the cost will all add up.

How old? The bike...not you. That's a good few grands worth at Harley prices. If its a "write off" ask what salvage/ buy back price...if your insurance allows that....then at the right price....secondhand....custom..parts..you should be ok.....

2011 agreed value at £11500 rear mudguard and tank could be beaten/filled and painted, I believe Harley painted parts come in primer only and would need painting anyway.
I'll have to wait and see.

Could you maybe get the scuffs out and then consider something like a vinyl wrap?

My son does this on bike parts and they look pretty amazing.

He can do petrol tanks, fenders etc by liquid dipping them.

Go Custom - it's the way forward.

Hopefully you will be able to get a decent payout for the work that needs to be carried out. You could ask for 'cash-in-lieu of settlement' if they want to write off the bike. Basically, they give you an amount of cash and it is down to you to fix the bike.

Paughco petrol tank, get the pipes Zircotec coated and powder coat the primary cover to match the crank case. (I did this and had a contrasting chrome derby cover). I would also black out any unnecessary chrome bits with powder coat

A couple of filled in scratches on the exhaust and primary are not a big deal. It shows that your bike has a story to tell.

I reckon you could get everything sorted for around £2K including painting.

If you're interested in buying the salvage you shouldn't let it be picked up and taken away....... The shop sits on it, racking up the daily storage charge, punts in an estimate just enough to write it off then does a deal with the insurance company on the salvage by reminding the insurance how much they are owed for storage and picking it up... next thing you know you're out of the circle and your bike is out of reach...

"In lieu of settlement" doesn't cover a write off. Just repair costs (minus the VAT) on a claim..

No not yet, I have been on holiday so not able to chase it up whilst away but I am on the case now, estimate is done just waiting authorisation to repair, the insurance company are so busy they have had to outsource the authorisation to a third party, lord knows how that works. Anyway £4200 ish + paint for the repairs ouch, all parts replaced like for like glad I got an agreed value policy.

Finally my bike is back, I'd sort of lost interest in it as it's been away for so long however as it was rolled out of the van into the sun this morning, I was straight on the phone to work making my excuses to get out and ride it so a slow 100 miles later and all is good.
If in the future you are offered the services of 4th Dimension be aware that they take a long time but the job they have done is spot on I can't fault it.
