That’s the mantra on these pages.

I have just failed to find a half decent hotel for myself for one one night, down the coast from Calais. It would be a real pain in the butt, having ridden all day, to find no room at the inn and have to then detour up to 30 miles inland (when I’d rather be in the bar) or spend north of £150 for one night.

Likewise, another hotel I have booked for the Saturday night has no room in its restaurant for little old me. Luckily, there is a good choice of eateries along the road, about a mile away. Shank’s pony calls….. or I’ll be a true Brit bikermate and take sarnies from Tesco and a kettle for me scran ‘n brew.

it is a short week that week (EU) so holidays for many. Even Logis not helping?

Logis fully booked, unless I spent big money…. Which is fine if you are with a lady. Me on my Jack Jones, less so.

I think it’s a combination of Frenchies / Belgians heading for the coast and Brits arriving by boat / train at Calais, moving along the coast for their first night on the mainland of Europe.

I'd spend north of £150 and then waste the evening sitting in the bar.
It's either that or waste the evening looking for a hotel room.

What date you looking at ?

On my Euro tour last year Hotel booking was done over lunch, we saw how the day was going and picked where we would like to stay that night and got on a hotel booking app. On the hotter days we reduced the distance and looked for somewhere with AC in the rooms.

Few cheap deals here now. Not much use for Calais I know, but the only cheap accommodation I find now is in Spain, and that is where I will be heading in September..
Last year, room in Sort with ac, balcony, breakfast €45, a day later in France it was around €90 and that was for a room to a lower standard and no ac!
Back in the day, ferry crossing from UK, we always had the first night pre-booked well in advance..to avoid disappointment and extra expense.

Friday 19 April.

Odd, as it’s not a French holiday (which I have collided with before) as far as I can see.

The restaurant in my hotel on the Baie du Somme is fully booked, too.

I have now sorted myself out.

France is becoming expensive.

Germany is cheaper, which is a bit counterintuitive, perhaps.

Ok, cool .
Was going to suggest the Hotel de Wimereux in ….. Wimereux just down road from Calais …..

as stated in another thread, last time I arrived somewhere without a reserved room I ended up eating a French Taco for dinner and no beer or wine

I always book. Always. I never travel with less than four and have recently been travelling with eight. Others can do it their way, I'll do it mine. I don't feel less like Ewan McGregor if I book. Glad you found somewhere in the end.

Who wants to schlep round an unfamiliar town looking for accommodation after a day on the bike? I always book, I want to be comfortable and within budget - on our last trip we must have stayed in 70 or more hotels, some in pretty difficult places.

No one. That's why booking.com was invented. See above
