Having to keep my bike outside in this weather is not ideal and I suffer from the inevitable flat battery after only 3 or 4 days.

To remedy this I bought an £80 booster pack from Halfords to remedy this. ( this is all the RAC use when I call them out).

Followed all the instructions like charging it for 36 hours first and got the green full battery light.

This morning, bike not run for a few days....click click click.

No problem I thought, I have my new gadget!

Connected it all correctly and click click click.:spitfire

Any ideas?

If you connected the power pack through the accessory socket, probably blew its approx 5 amp current limiting device.

If it was across the battery

The dinosaur 1150's had a stud on the left cylinder and one on the starter motor for jump starting, that might work for you

I've also seen "bikestart" connectors on IIRC Nippy's site. Might be worth looking into.

If one of the cells has internally shorted out, I'd guess it'll stop you starting the bike. Happened on a Peugot diesel, and the recovery man put 24v across the battery and it started. I'd be wary of doing it on your bike though.

Might be worthwhile seeing if anyone has a spare battery they could lend you to check out the battery scenario, or try charging it off the bike to see if it's fcuked.

If still in warranty, then a call to the BM assist people might be in order.

Flat battery after 3 or 4 days ?.
You need to give it a full charge,Booster packs are ok to get you out of trouble.
You need to get your battery check out and your charging system, it might be cold but its not that cold to effect it.

Provided that you've got the polarities correct and that the booster's charged up :augie

Make sure you've got a really good connection to the battery with the croc clips on the booster, this has caught me out a couple of times. Also if the leads unplug from the booster make sure they're plugged in all the way. Sounds simple but it catches out the best of us sometimes :D

You really shouldn't be getting a flat battery after 3-4 days though, sounds like it's either knackered or you've got charging issues to me. Try giving it a trickle charge overnight if you can, and see where that gets you.

Power surge converter

you can do untold damage by just connecting your fully charged
Power pack to your discharged battery.

Without trying to pee on yer fire , an £80 booster pack , sounds a
bit "Corgi" to me. The Last one "The Company " Bought cost Eur 800 .00
It was a 12/24 , no frills item.

Tuppence worth

I do believe on my last or maybe previous service {rip off }
I had the Latest Updated programme to stop the Bike/Alarm running down the
Battery.

By connecting it directly to both pos and neg terminals the charge is going through the dead battery first, most cars recommend you put the pos terminal on the battery and the neg on a decent earth, on the bike the footrest should do, that way all the power from your booster pack is going to the starter rather than through a dead battery. Read the manual, stuck in Canada so can't check but I'm sure this is what it says in there. Oh and connecting to both terminals has probably goosed your battery so could be time for a new one.

I dont think connecting the jump pack will have knackered your battery, as I and friends have connected many different charger packs to many different batteries in every way possible and no batteries have ever been damaged. A cheap charger pack will work on most bikes.

try the pack on something else (just connect it to the starter) to see that it works, Friend had this prob on his 1200 he took starter off lubed the mechanisim of the solenoid and all was fine after that

..... that way all the power from your booster pack is going to the starter rather than through a dead battery.
...nice idea. Just remember to tell the electrons to ignore the battery as well :D

my thoughts exactly. they won't be put off by having to go through an extra 18" of starter cable :)

the reason you should not connect both leads across the battery termnals, is to stop a spark igniting any gas given off by the battery (happened to friend of mine).

edit: see post 26 here

I bought a cheap booster pack and have used it successfully loads of times on the bike (before the mod on the ecu which sorted the battery drain problem) and on cars the trick is to make sure you have a good connection on the battery and leave it connected for a few minutes before trying to start the engine,
