The HG ones I think you mean are these

HG RALLYE GTX II BOOTS BLACK

4075

I've got a pair...it's my second actually, the first were replaced under warranty when the buckle attachment point pulled right out of the leather.

I've only worn them a couple of times- TBH they are very comfy but I just don't trust their protection levels- they're too soft and floppy IMO and I feel so much better in the TRG boots.

I'd only wear the Rallye ones if it was piddling down and i had to do a full day in the rain, or maybe on a long tour where I was expecting bad weather.

Are the TRGs a similar fit to the Rallyes ?

If so,and the Rallyes are just a rebadged Oxtar/TCX Infinity, then i might have to get a pair,as the fit will be perfect.

No....they're worlds apart.

Just to clarify, the TRG's are the MXstyle ones i posted first, the Rallye II boots are the all-black softer ones later on.

The TRG's feel hard, supportive and inspire confidence as soon as they go on......they buckle up tight as you like whereas the Rallye boots are so soft that you can only ramp up the cantilevers a little bit or the leather cuts into flesh (rather than spreading the forces out and becoming generally tighter like with the TRG's)

Imagine looking at a standard house brick on a standard tarmac road....if you offered me a fiver if I could kick the brick five feet, I'd have a go with the TRG's on but I'd tell you to piss off with the Rallye II's on :)

I know they are different styling !!

But I asked if they were similar fit-ie if I take a 46 in the Oxtar/Rallye would a 46 in the TRG fit the same,ie does it have similar width etc ?

I sold my Daytonas because they were too wide and felt like wellies.

But my Oxtars/re badged HG Rallyes fit superbly.

Obviously the TRGs wouldn't be as comfy, being much harder etc.

I had a pair of Alpinestar Tech6s when I dallied in MX so I'm guessing the TRGs are a budget version of those.

I'll have to pop in to an HG store when I'm over,as i also want to have alook at the HG Toerag 2 piece.

Ta for the info anyway,Bill.

Have a good look, I see only cosmetic differences - there are several sources on the web quoting that a single factory in Italy makes all three of these. :nenau

BMW santiago are made in Slovenia. believe me Copying a model is very common this days.. I don't know whos got the xerox though .:aidan

Sorry...with you now.

I'm Size 47 in both and they do feel a similar fit- it's hard to tell though TBH 'cos of the rigidity difference.

Bizarrely, on the bike, the TRGs are actually more comfy for me- I'm 6 '4" and I don't use lowered pegs 'cos I already grind my toes and pegs out a fair bit- this means my feet are slightly bent at the ankle particularly when I'm two up- the Rallye II's flex in such a way that the rubber disc that sits over the ankle bone digs into my foot just above the ankle and I can't do more than 3-400 miles with them on.

The TRG's are all-day comfy on the bike......

I'd rather walk around towns in the Rallys though, and have frequently forgotten I'm wearing bike boots when doing so...the TRG's are ok to walk in but they squeak like two action men doing it dry :D

FWIW I've got a pair of the HG version and though I like them, they have a rough seam on the inside around the top of the Velcro bit that rips the hell out of my calf if I don't wear long socks with them - deep scratches if I walk more than 100yds - thereby making them inconvenient for day-to-day use when I have to wear smart working clothes etc.

Otherwise I think the comfort and protection is more than adequate for road/touring use.

Didn't realise they all came out of the same factory - very interesting.

I've been wearing a pair of Altberg boots for 10 years - made in Richmond, Yorks, brilliantly made, good protection, great soles, comfortable to walk in, still waterproof, custom fit, etc.

They regularly place well in the RIDE product tests, with no advertising or other coverage I can see - all word of mouth.

They do some higher leg boots, but not full MX equivalents, so may not be completely what you want.

Have a look at http://www.altberg.co.uk/Web/motorcycle1.jsp

Left toe rubbed slightly when collected them, whisked away by men in leather aprons, (the boots not me) who fettled it on the spot.
Bit too effecient really, wasn't used to that level of service.

Just asked SWMBO when I bought them, and it was four years ago.
Also commented that "to be fair they are hardly worn"

So no new boots for me anytime soon then :mmmm

WOW:eek: That is a wealth of infomation:D
Pale, we need a spin to a few shops, and lets get a wee dram in this time:beerjug:

Alt-bergs

Bought my Alt-berg clubman classics this year at Staffs bike show, now I know why most of the Police Motorcyclists wear em. Best fitting waterproof boots I've ever had, there British made great quality, good prices and you can get them resoled or repaired easily.....what more do you want :thumb.

I also have a pair of Clubman Classics. Mine are now 9 years old and they've gone a bit saggy and baggy around the ankles. However, even when they were new, they didn't provided anything like the level of protection offered by pukka off-road boots.

Anyone interested in why off-road boots are necessary, might want to read this......

I wear Berik Contender MX boots. Yes they do leak in heavy rain and yes they are not the easiest things to wear around town, But i much prefer the added security, be it a mental issue or actual extra protection whilst riding, you only have one body and i wont take unnecessary risks with my feet. But thats just mho.

A*Star Vectors

I use a pair of Alpinestar Vectors (£80 off flea bay). They are pretty much ideal for most types of riding - despite not being waterproof they are still really warm even in torrential downpours. Combined with a pair of SealSkinz they're even better!

Scanned the article on motorcycle foot wear: - it would appear they agree that they don't know what they doing. Look at the tests and you will agree.

"Unlike injuries associated with skiing, there is little scientific understanding of the mechanism of off road motorcycle associated lower extremity injuries. Despite the lack of scientific data, boot design continues to evolve with seemingly better protective features. Future research efforts to study in vivo injury patterns and their association with boot design such as with a lower extremity injury registry among orthopaedic surgeons who treat these injuries will help us to better understand the relationship between lower extremity protective devices and injury prevention."

Altbergs - wear them at work 100% waterproof, 100% comfortable.

Heine Gerike - http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/3_138/products_id/3904

Low boot, 100% waterproof and 100% comfortable. I wear these on touring trips after riding as well, just pop a bit of antifungal foot powder in on a daily basis.

Moto Cross boots - Gaerne Skywalker - not water proof, big a clumsy but you feel good as the toe is easy to scrape on the road without trying. I would rate them as the best for ankle and shin protection.

It seems to make sense to me that the bigger the boot and the stiffer the ankle then the more protection it will give in the event of a crash. I have crashed or fallen off several times and fortunately the time my ankle came into contact with a car I was wearing m/x boots and no damage to my ankle. My fibula snapped towards the top so clearly there was a lot of stress through my leg and that was shown by the damage to the car wing it was a right mess.

VFM would be Altberg - it can be a walking boot as well.

Practicality - Heine Gerike - only need these boots on a European trip.

I've got a pair of Oxtar (Now called TCX) Infinity Gore Tex.

I won them but would def buy another pair.

They fit perfectly and haven't leaked a drop in 2 years.

Not as off-roady as the MX style but at least they are 100% waterproof.

A pair of these TCX (they've just been rated as one of the best protective boots by Bike Magazine, although that was in comparison to many road boots) or a pair of alpine stars Tech X
