boots for overland trip

I'm leaving Germany to ride to Nepal and back on my 100GS at the beginning of August. I have most of the equipment that I need (as little as possible) and am currently looking for boots. I would like a compromise boot that I can wear on and off the bike (thus sacrificing a bit of safety for less luggage). I thought of something like KSB's or some other kind of lighter walking boot. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Altberg do bike boots and walking boots. I have a pair of steel toecap boots for work that I ride in and walk in. Pretty waterprooof and give better protection than lightweight KSB type boots. They may be a bit hot across Pakistan/India though.

I would agree KSB's will give hardly any protection. def. check out altberg better with a boot highish up your ankle. have a good trip.

Boots

What ever you decide on make sure that you've got good ankle protection,
I made this mistake last yeasr using good solid walking boots in place od normal boots 'cos it was hot. Came off whilst off road at about 15 mph and sprained my ankle quite badly lesson learned, had previously had several hi
speed prangs with no probs (not to feet anyway).

You might also like to consider the Daytona Journey XCR. These are short, but still provide ankle protection. They are light and flexible enough for walking and are both waterproof and breathable.

I'd wear proper boots if there was any chance of offroading, a twisted or worse ankle can really make a mess of any travel plans.

Just carry a pair of those 4X4 looking sandels (if its temperate where you are going) or a pair of walking boots if its colder or you are thinking of hiking.

Do you actually plan on doing any serious walking/hiking?
It might be better to take your proper riding boots and a pair of deck pumps or something similar that will not take up much room.
Of course, if it's Nepal your headed for you probably will require something sturdy.

Very good advice, without proper boots your shins will be a mess in no time and that is the least you can expect!

Thanks for all the replies. I checked out the Altberg website - exactly what I was looking for but unfortunately made to order (next delivery date mid September - too late for me).

I'll keep looking, but if the worst comes to the worst I'll wear my trusty old HG lace up boots (with lots of ankle protection) and take an extra pair of shoes for off the bike.

Ring them and have a yarn they are very accomodating and if you go to the shop they will do small adaptions to "stock" boots for you there and then!
