Boreen Run 2008 in the Sunny SouthEast.

Daithi;I don't suppose you'll be at the Boreen Run Gerry ?[/QUOTE said:
You are supposing correctly.
I did my first riders rally in 1975 and while I have missed a lot of them since - bringing up kids and making ends meet - if I'm free over the Aug bank holiday it's the riders.
As Aidan alludes, it's imperfect but it reminds me of my youth - nostalgia and all that shite. :rob
I'm a creature of habit.
The Boreen would appeal but even I can't bi-locate or be in two spots at the same time, simultaneously, contemporaneously.........................................

...........................................you still awake?

It's gonna be great ! :bounce1

Sure is ;)
Here's a wee taste of what's on the agenda for the first day :moped:

Hey Guys is that waterfall about halfway tween Waterford and wexford and due north off the main route??

I've been trying to find half a dozen times since I first visited it back in 94 when there was no such thing as a GPS!

The wrecked trawler is it on the shore of a peninsula SE of waterford ????

Jay, the trawler is in Bannow Bay, between Rosslare & Waterford :

And Mahon Falls is in the triangle between Waterford, Dungarvan & Clonmel :

Thanks Jockser the trawlers about where I thought it should be Fethard is a hard name and place to forget. I bet it's Hellishly well built up down there now compared to 94~95?

I think I recall a similar waterfall somewhere over east of Waterford I saw it on an old map I had and took a trip up But Hey it was 14 years ago so it may well have been the Mahon Falls

Thanks Guys

There ain't no feckin' waterfalls between Waterford and Wexford - at least, not since the last ice age :augie..........Mahon Falls, well worth the spin :thumb2

The wreck is the Portlairge (as gaeilge; The Waterford) - not a trawler but a dredger that is beached along the shore of Bannow Bay, Wexford near to Tintern Abbey -

(shamelessly blagged from another site

"For the information those of you who seem to have no feeling for Waterford's Heritage, the dredger SS Portlairge was built in Glasgow in 1906 and worked on the Suir for 74 years up to the time it was retired (and sold for a pittance) in 1980. Its proposed replacement never materialised as it was caught up in the intricacies of a liquidation when its builder - the Ross shipyard - went bust. The Portlairge was only one of 3 working models of its generation and type in 1980. In truth, the decision to dispense with it could be viewed as a rather shortsighted and unfortunate decision of the then Harbour Board. Imagine the attraction it would now be on the river. To those of us Waterford folk who had connections with the ship - and there are quite a few of us - the sight of it in its present state, is heartbreaking; better it had been scuttled than end up as a rusting hulk. Unfortunately, it is probably beyond saving at this stage and that is to al of Waterford's shame")

Diathi, is the boreen going to the Abbey - well worth the visit....?

No Vireo, we won't be visiting the Abbey, I had a look at info on it here and would like to have a wander, but there won't be time on the Boreen Run for it. Interesting to get a bit of info on the wreck, I'm sure it would have been worth keeping.
Beautiful area down around there, we were down around that neck of the woods on Saturday for the Boreen Run, stunning scenery, really enjoyed it.

Put me down for this one.
