Getting close to renewal time and its often difficult to find alternatives to my current policy that a) allows byway use (nig based policies for instance dont) b) allows accessories/modifications (lots dont), has anyone got any recommendations that i could get quotes from ??

Cheers
Ian

Try e-bike insurance

Originally they didn't cover off road but, after pressure from customers, they now provide 3rd party cover for off road riding. Check the small print because I think this may be just where it is required by the law. If you're on an unsurfaced road or byway you are insured, if you are riding a non legal trail you may not be covered but then again you are not required to as it is not a road.

Quotes are always competitive, modifications are no problem and it is very easy to swap bikes or add riders online without admin fees.

Ebike have aroused some considerable displeasure from people making claims, whether they are really worse than any other insurance company is hard to say, but before switching to them you might want to send BHT a PM for his wholly educated opinion about them.

But I've got to say BMW/Devitts are well into chocolate teapot status as regards a) admin and b) modifications. I've not had occasion to ask them about off road use.

Fortunately never had to claim off ebike but my wife claimed off ecar (same company) and the experience was completely trouble free.

Surprised that byway use is an issue. After all, in law, byways are considered as roads; you must be insured, taxed and road legal.

yes indeed and that's an argument i had with them but they were adamant that they wouldn't cover it.

at the moment ebike are coming up the cheapest at about 25ukp less than my current insurer/broker:thumb
