One member of the London Assembly Group said that the London cycling Superhighways are "...little more than blue paint on the road". I have to agree.

I'm currently in Zandvoort, Holland and have my (pedal) bike with me. I rode 55kms on Thursday - all on tarmac - and no more than 1 or maybe 2kms on roads shared with other traffic.

If Boris wishes to properly promote cycling, the whole Superhighway concept needs a massive rethink!

Sad news about the death - first one since Boris started the scheme off I believe.

UK is rather unique amongst its Euro neighbours in that cycling is seen as something done by those who can't afford a car. The whole concept of 'what cycling is' needs to change in Britain before it becomes any safer.

Cycles sharing roads with cars/lorries/buses may work in Holland but it sure don't work here - doesn't matter how many painted bike lanes appear it's the mindset of those who ride and those who drive that needs looking at first then you can start on the way of dedicated lanes.

We have some ridiculous painted ones on the road through Windermere, the roads are not wide enough for them to be anything other than a waste of paint!

Perhaps its about time cyclists started paying towards the provision/upkeep of the cycle lanes they share with taxpaying vehicles.

Yep - that one from the traffic lights at Waterhead on the Kendal road has got to be the most ridiculous waste of paint ever! :blast

We have some ridiculous painted ones on the road through Westminster, the roads are so full of traffic already theres not enough room for them to be anything other than a waste of paint!

Fixed.

Its not a waste of paint its a waste of being in the EU as most of this cycling issue is being promoted and paid for by the back door by greens in Europe.
When we were in Sicily they were moaning about the fact that they had been given millions to waste on cycle lanes and promotion of cycling when only the very poor cycle because of the heat most of the year:blast

I was cycling in Brighton today. Fecking cycle lane is a strip of the esplanade pavement. Pedestrians are too busy ogling totty/stuffing ice cream/pissed/whatever to notice bikes. I bet they have loads of pedestrian/cyclist interfaces!
