Went to the tyre fitters today to have my new ones fitted for my fast approaching alps trip.

Whilst the rear was out being fitted I noticed that the bottom bush on the shock was slightly on the piss, not good:(closer inspection revealed that the feckin bolt had snapped WTF.

I get sorted at the fitters and get bike trailered home, strip it down. Now I don't know for sure, but something is not right here.

On the bolt is a collar which is the same size as the bolt head which goes from left to right as you put it through the hole in the shaft housing then through the bush to screw in the hole on the right side, trouble is the hole on housing is about 1-2mm bigger than the head on the bolt.Am I missing a bush or spacer here?couple of pics to follow will explain it all.

But I think the housing is toast, can't budge the broken piece of bolt.Bike is an 02 ADV fitted with ohlins, not by me!I have no idea how long it has been like it,there has been no difference in handing so I have not suspected anything is wrong.
I just hope that it happened after the BMF which I atteneded with my son two up.The remaining part of the bolt was fairly corroded in the bush perhaps this kept it from falling out:nenau Don't really want to know,I got away with it thats all that counts.HAS ANYONE GOT A SPARE HOUSING FOR SALE I NEED THIS BY NEXT WEEKEND AT THE LATEST.:eek:Andy

Andy, I had the same after a "good" bottom out, I bought some long drills with a hex chuck end, popped the middle of the bit left in the swing arm and drilled it carefully, it came out with an "easy out" no new arm. In UK conditions maybe you will need some penetrating oil?

Mine was due to someone using a lower strength stainless bolt in there!!

Bolt

Heat it up qwith a hot air gun this might help anyway can't do any harm but wear gloves don't touch it!.

Managed to get back into Photobucket, the following pics are bad quality but lets see.

Rode 150 mile home, some dirt, mainly tar with only a 10mm Allen held in by duct tape :blast

The problem!

Bought some long "hex" ended drills.

It would just drill through the whole length.

In with an Easy Out working in the gap where the shock should be.

Then YAHOO

But we do not have big corrosion here :clap:clap

shaft housing

looking at your pics I can see why mine snapped. The bush is missing on mine, where it has gone :nenauI have no idea.

It can't come out when the bolt is in,this pic is how I found it,but with the bolt still in the bush on the shock,no bush:nenau.

I would say that hole is slightly oval, what do you reckon?

A cheap vernier may not be accurate enough to measure it, but it will tell you the ovality :D

From a Pic no chance!!!
