So now I have bought an airhead .
It was perhaps inevitable, I have own a pair of BMW bikes ( K100RS , K1) in the past and my father had even more .
But after more than 20 different motorcycles in 30 years it was time for a R100GS - '93.
The last bike was a KTM SuperEnduro 950 (my second) and now I ride an old GS.
I liked my KTM and all my powerfull bikes (Hayabusa and GSXR1100, some with turbo) so why did I want a GS with perhaps 45BHP at the rear wheel?
Well, why not?
It is a classic with history and it works!
Clearly more comfortable than my KTM 950 and really fun to ride (!!) .
So far no technical problems, but it will be some soon , I expect .
This winter I will fix the clip in the box, replace the drive shaft, fix charging, purchase a new shock, change head race and why not a PD- tank?
Plenty to do for me in the winter.
Greetings from northern Sweden / Alf

Will put on TKC80 this fall, muddy roads up north in Sweden! (how do I post pics?)

Welcome to the site.

Best way to add pictures is to link to them in a Flickr or photo bucket site.

Welcome to the Airhead section Alf ...you will find plenty of great help/advice and encouragement from some very, very clever people on here.
If you struggle to find a PD tank I think I know where one is but it isn't cheap :e (last I heard it was £400 (4358 SEK :eek:)

Welcome to the site and happy family of Airhead owners/menders/moaners. Dont be afraid to ask for advice as you will nearly always get 3 different views on any subject
I love mine, I think we all love our older bikes more than the newer uns. Flash us some pictures up:thumby::thumby:

Welcome!

Great bikes, its not about the power, just ride the torque. (I suspect you will be getting a bit less that 45BHP at the rear wheel.....!)

Welcome aboard, you won't regret it....

...too often. :D

Seriously, they are such rewarding bikes to own and live with. Enjoy it.

Jlooking forward to seeing the pics. If you post them as a link to Flickr etc and in future change or close that account we will just see blank dead end links.

Thanks for all the nice responses
I try to link to a Swedish pic-site, see if it works. The pictures are from my first short trip with the bike in July 11 – 2016. It was in the middle of the night (23:30 to 00:30). I live only 100km from the Arctic Circle, so we have “daylight around the clock” in the middle of summer. So the charging-system works well for me on my BMW, I do not need lights! I will fix some pictures from the garage when I work with the bike later.
Best regards.

I know parts like the PD-tank are expensive but so was the bike. Not many R100GS(PD) were sold in Sweden due to extreme high price when new so they are rare here.

Hi Alf,
I recently bought a R80 GS same year and colour as yours, unused for 12 years.
A few problems, main expense was a rusted fuel tank, £400+ second hand. but easy to work on and great fun to ride.

Plenty of knowledge on here,

Have fun and ride safe

Marty

Enjoy your new airhead ! ;)

They're great fun, and you'll get great support in this section.

An interesting day! I have owned my GS for two months (and drove it for about 2000km ) and it has worked well, no technical problems as I mentioned. Today came a new sound from the starter? Two days after my first topic I get a problem? It turned out that my Valeo starter (made in Poland year 2010) had lost the grease retainer for the planetary gear an it shorted the rotor. I made a new plastic one and the problem was solved. Good to have a lathe, I love that old Torshälla SV-150!
And I still love my GS!

The great thing about these bikes is when they go wrong you can fix them!! You can't do that on my WC GSA.:blast

This is a good case in point actually, am I right in thinking that to remove the starter of a WC you need to remove the gearbox first or the engine or something insane like that? Madness.

Ha, no. The first thing you remove is your mobile phone to ring your Bmw dealer then you have to remove a large amount of cash from the wallet you removed earlier! :blast
