Brake disc replacements?

I need to replace my front discs - any recommendations, or should I stick to BM* OE discs?
Of the aftermarket varieties, I've been told that EBC discs rust like mad.

I've got floating discs on a 17" R1100R front wheel fitted. They're worn below the wear limit and are rattling like hell, so it's another bashing for the A.Bargy esq. credit card.

Talking of money, who does the best deals on parts like this? I was going to try Motorworks.

I did read somewhere on here the last few days that fitting floating discs was the biggest mistake the guy fitted on his bike. Will do a search for the thread. OE seems to be ok if it is not a duff batch.

Er, Aren't they floating discs as standard Maverick?

Just replaced the discs on mine with some secondhand BM ones from someone on here and the rattle is gone.

Alternatives are Motorworks and EBC, Motorworks have more iron in them, and so weigh a bit more and should work better. But as I didn't want to spend every week cleaning the oxide dust off my bike, I opted for the standard ones.

Don't know about the EBC ones, although did have some fitted to another bike and they duely warped. However I am not confident that the quality of the discs were to blame for this.

Check out www.ks-parts.de for very good prices. Even if you don't speak German the pictures and prices are pretty simple to follow. They have Lucas and brembo parts.

I think you should get some Wavey discs.

Then you can let me know what you think of them-just in case I decide to go that route!!!!!

Duncan - I was rather hoping someone else would have fitted them allready and posted to say how fantastic they were, and only half the price of Beemer discs etc.

Maveric - the floating jobbies are standard on the 1100R, so they came 'free' with the cast wheel.

Well I don't know, all I read was that someone fitted some fancy smanshie floating discs on his GS with standard wheels and said it was shite. For the life of me I can't find the thread..jeez this shit really works

Just avoid " Stealth discs", fine at first but they have deteriorated rapidly after about 8000 miles and are now chewing pads at a crazy rate.

That's why I am looking for a 2nd hand set for an 1100!!!

Aha!!! That's what I meant Stealth pads knew I saw something interesting elsewhere.

Cast Disks

I opted for motorworks cast disks and ebc HH pads, I like the disks, the improvement in braking efficiency is very comforting. I am not so keen on the EBC HH pads as they rattle like hell and will go back to ferodo as soon as these wear out.

I cant remember the costs but it was about 40% less than the OE stainless pap.

PS I dont find the rust a problem as I ride everyday now covering about 1500 miles a week and there is no buildup of corrosion.
