Very true! But this is my first bike with ABS, only had it 3 months, I guess I am not totally comfortable yet with just "banging it on"
As I said, maybe I could have stopped a bit sooner ... Although I did beat the "official" distance by 9 metres. Maybe I'll go back tomorrow and see how the ABS performs
I argree totally. I was obviously prepared for the brakes to be weak - someone in a panic situation might not realise what was happening. Nonetheless I reckon it's a good idea for people with these brakes to practice this situation sometime, it might save you in an emergency.
I have two theories about the alleged brake failures:
1 - you need so much more force to get "residual braking" that it FEELS like the brakes have totally failed.
2 - it's nothing to do with the servos, perhaps the ABS fails in some way - after all the job of the ABS is to stop the brakes working!
I'll try and report back to say if the ABS can beat my instinct later

Makes me wonder if anticipation is a factor?
You knew or anticipated that the brake would feel different with the servo disabled. Presumably the BMW test riders would too during development of the servo brake models. It is likely to feel different if the failure happens without warning. Is it possible therefore that this might go some way to explaining the lack of brakes sensation?
