Just cleaning up the rear calliper on my 2010 GSA to resolve some minor binding and it occurs to me the bike is now 11 years old and on it's original brake hoses. My bike has a braided rear hose from new and I've not noticed any issues (beyond the recent binding which is probably due to lack of preventative maintenance yeah I know :blast) - does any one know what the normal life is for this braided hose?

I've not worried too much about them on the GSA, my TL's have just rubber hoses from new and were replaced with braided ones fairly early on to improve the braking feel.
I've just bought another TL to get roadworthy, it's not been on the road for 15 years and is all original except for some scorpion slip on cans. Original brake hoses on that will be coming off before I ride it. (The tyres on it are dated 2006)
I guess the GSA ones might need doing at some point but mine seem to be ok still after nearly 15 years and 111.000 miles

I suspect that if they could be shown to have a finite life BMW's lawyers and accountants would have added them to the maintenance schedule.

I'm sure my Yamaha FZ1 handbook service schedule stated that the brake hoses should be replaced every four years.

The other interesting item in the service schedule was oil filter only to be changed every other oil change.

rubber hoses will break down ...cos they are made of rubber .

braided hoses have a nylon/teflon core , and do not degenerate . the core is good for 3000 psi minimum , the braiding takes them up to 12000 psi .

Goodridge used to supply the aero industry , good enough for them , motorbikes are nothing.

i have factory braided hoses on my Cali , 04 plate , 105k miles. i have no intention of changing them yet.

Partially dependent upon whether brake fluid has been changed regularly too. If the bike has been well maintained then 11 years shouldn't be a problem. Mine are 13 years now and still fine. Fluid clear, brakes work well
