I got fed up with the amount of low speed brake judder I was experiencing and didn't fancy shelling out £140+ with Steptoe for a new pair of front disks.

So I did something I neglected to do all summer - give the calipers, pistons and pads a damn good clean.

I found one stuck piston and made up some wooden blocks to stop the other pistons coming out and used a small G cramp to stop the one opposite coming out.

Then a few good squeezes of the lever and out she popped! I got it out about 1cm - as far as I dared (no idea how deep they are) and cleaned it all up with a toothbrush and some mild car wash solution(fairy liquid's got salt in it, apparently)

I did the same with all the other pistons and scrubbed up the calipers where the pads 'slide/sit'

I put some 800 grip paper on a flat board and gave the pads a bit of a scrub as well.

Once everything was back together and after a brief test ride (no - I didn't end up in the hedge opposite the garage as I'd remembered to pump the brakes until I got resistance before I set off :thumb ) I returned with a cheesy grin as the pulsing/juddering has gone :D

So, before you shell out big bucks on new disks, try a clean and scrub! You never know :beerjug:

You'd be better using proper brake cleaner rather than the car shampoo.

I didn't have any so it just took a little longer to scrub off the crap. But yes, brake cleaner is on the Christmas Prezzie list.

Really glad you got it sorted so easily :thumb2 but I hope that's not what my problem's been all along, I've spent a small fortune on discs over the past 5 years :eek

As and when the inevitble pulsing brake lever returns I'll check and clean the pistons first.
