Brake pads advice on wear

I’ve heard some people needing pads every other service, sold my GS with 16000 and 70% left on pads . So much depends on riding style.

What I would say though is if you’re concerned, change them, don’t want to be worrying about it while you’re away for the cost of a set of brake pads.

That doesn’t sound right at all in the pads, surely they’ve not checked them correctly !

In the end I didn’t swap the pads, I did the trip to Norway and had no bother at all. There’s still some life left in them too.
They double checked and sent me photos. I'll be calling Motor works tomorrow re this, maybe they got a bad batch. Rear disc is 4.6mm and they originally wanted to replace this. I told them not yet, its only worn 40%. I did ask them to test and check out the clutch micro switch. They said it was fine, no errors in the diagnostics...I asked if they tested it. Yes, and a test ride. Got on it, put it in gear, clutch in and ,,,nada. Anyhow, manager came out. Not 1 bit impressed with his tech. Asked me to pop round tomorrow and it'll be sorted after he has spoken to the techs..Embarrassed was how the manager looked...So much for their diagnostic software. A 2 second manual check was all it needed!

On the subject of brake pads; my GSA rear pads have what looks like some kind of heat resistant backing clipped to the inside pad, when i come to replace the pads (assuming i opt for a non-OEM brand) do i transfer this pad to the new ones, do i leave it off, do new OEM ones come with this extra thing?

Yes, its a heatsink pad. Just transfer it over.

that’s an anti squeal plate, put the tiniest smear of grease on the inside of it and fit it to the new pad

This thread inspired me to take a look at the pads on my 2022 1250GS. I don’t ride much in traffic and all three pad sets are at 75% left with 14,500 miles on the bike.
