IMHO...Stay factory
After market....too hard a pad=premature wear/damaged rotors
...too soft a pad= replacement very often.

I fitted EBC HH pads on my K1200S and they seemed to work fine.
BMW changed the formula on the K pads though - the first set lasted 12k miles, but warped the discs (common problem with the K), the second set only lasted 6k and friends with K's also noticed the accelrated wear rate on their bikes.
I fitted EBC's at half the price after that and they seemed to stop just as well with no detriment to the discs. Never had an issue with them on my VFR's either

Me too.
In the past the OEM rears on 1200's tended to wear out v. rapidly, maybe they still do and nobody is complaining, but Ferodo Platinums are half the price and last twice as long as those factory pads with no change in braking performance. I've used HH sintered types and they are no better, I'm not sure they don't score the disks more too.
I guess we all have varying experiences. My '08 GSA is on the original pads after 19K miles and the fronts are not even half worn yet and the rears are only 1/3 worn. No noticable wear on the disks either in terms of thickness - they read the same now as they did at 6K miles.
On that basis I will replace with OEM pads as I'm also happy with how they work although I have HH EBC sintered on my K bike and they were a great improvement over stock.

Pity they didn't compare the UK made [URL="http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249744"]DP pads[/URL]. very popular with race teams, and they have a long life with good disc wear.
Wear rate is on a par with the ferodo pads i also supply. I don't supply any other makes due to disc wear issues.

Steptoe, I wasn't sure whether to post this here or on your DP thread but its relevant here anyway. What are the DP pads like in the cold and wet, from cold type thing? I only ask because I had a set in my TDM (not DP but Sintered) and they were frighting when cold and wet. There was virtually no braking until they warmed and dried a bit, then could suddenly lock if you didnt have much speed at the time.
As for the rest of this thread, I have never liked EBC pads and always try to use Ferodo if I can. I have tried to find the Brembo pads that are in the German comparison but cant find them for the 2008 on brakes. Anybody found any? Aren't the OEM pads Brembo anyway with them being Brembo callipers? Oh and FFS dont buy Gold brand pads, they are amazingly bad at any time.

They are from Brembo but BMW spec mixture, not the same as the test winner Brembo 07 BB 26 A.
AFAIK there are realy only 5 big brake pad manufacturers globally, they manufacture for almost everyone. Possible the DP pads are from the same supplier as the Ferodos.

Agree *BUT* each "Brand/Company" has certain specs for their particular product.
My friends wife works as a represetive for one of the largest "after market parts" manufacturers auto and bikes,...(5 world wide manufacturing locations),and explained that each "Company(customer)" has it's own receipe for what they want *of* their own particular product.
As far as what any "Race Team" uses,don't forget they will use and promote any and all products given to them *Free of Charge" providing it does the job required.
Also the "Race Conditions" and actual "Real World Conditions" is like comparing "apples to oranges". Besides new pads are installed before each race/event....
Couldn't agree more. A product used for racing does not mean much for us, except may be for other racers. Most of the time the race product has nothing to do with the one on the shop shelves anyway.
Now about the rotor wear: There were differences in this test field, but most pads are actually on the acceptable side. The Ferodos had not the best result in this criteria, albeit they came out best in terms of pad wear.
Considering that the BMW pads are double the price than all the other aftermarket pads, me think except these and the Carbone Lorraines none of the others are a bad buy. For mile munchers the Ferodos might be a good choice, for sportive riders the Lucas.

I use the Ferodo's from Steptoe on my 1200 and 1100. Good pad life and good stopping power in all conditions.

Stopping in the cold and wet isn't a problem, i'm sure i'd have noticed in the rcent weather. These used to be branded goldfren, and they were appalling, i refuse to sell them despite the massive mark up available. They truly are shite pads.
No, the DP pads are made in the UK by a small independent firm who specialise in quality brake pads, and have been going for a long time.
Like comparing high street clothing with a bespoke tailors clothing.
DP don't give their pads away to race teams, and the road pads are completely different to the race pads.
Plus, i don't sell any old pads like the normal retailer. I only sell what i use and have seen used on customers bikes over the years, and that goes for anything not just pads. I'm not here just to make a fast buck (otherwise i'd be seeling Gold pads and any other shite)
