Brakes Spongy

I've taken the front and rear callipers of and cleaned them up but when put back together they're a bit spongy and there is a hissing noise coming from the right of the head stock down bellow the tank somewere.

I haven't, intentionally or knowingly, broken into any of the lines and the pistons were not removed from the callipers

Now, I've had a good look round and there are no signs of brake fluid leaking and the levels in both front and rear fluid pots are normal, even after repeated pumpings.

Any clues before I go for a fluid change and hope?

To help with replies What year bike? Does it have ABS/Servo How old is the brake fluid?

Sorry, my bad...

2011 R1200GS Adv with ABS.

The brake fluid is four hours older than it was when it was fine. i.e. before I cleaned the callipers.

Change the fluid is the easy option and one I was going to go straight for but don't want to start wasting fluid unnecessarilly, tree hugging and all....

It's more the hissing noise and without having the tank off, again, I can't pinpoint it.

you havnt done anything wrong,mine are just the same and work perfectly when out on the road.agreed they do make a noise and appear to be spongy but all is well.

Pump up the lever and tie it back to the bar and leave it overnight.

Turn the handlebar so the master cyl is sloped up from banjo to reservoir pot.
Slowly move the brake lever and you might see little bubbles escape into the reservoir pot.
