Battery Battery, had the same, new battery sorted it.

Better still - use the breakdown cover which the bike comes with and let them sort it out .

Put battery charger on and its the battery completely drained ... didn't think it would be that due to age of bike and the fact it only gets used for decent runs .... so I take it BMW have a prob with these batteries ??

I had a new battery on my 14 even tho there was nothing wrong with the existing battery, i presumed it was a recall !

Had the battery charger been connected to the bike before you went out, or did you connect it after it wouldn't start?

Another chap on here used to leave his charger connected whenever he wasn't riding, IIRC on a bike that was only a few weeks old, and it killed the battery.

I don't leave charger connected to bike ... I put it on charge to see if the battery was flat and thus the problem and it was

BTW I got two pug dogs as well ;)

There has been a "silent " recall on the 14 bike batteries in the USA. Batteries were quietly swapped out at service or repair times.
The 14 bike batteries were smaller and needed a foam spacer pad under them to fill the space in the compartment.
The new replacements are bigger and I haven't had any issues since the new battery was fitted.

Had my, new in December, bike recovered twice with this.

Duff battery and also traced a software glitch - sorted by Chester.

Let them recover it.

Battery on 15 bike

The first time I went to use my new 15 bike totally dead...rang recovery and they sorted it out but it did spoil my easter weekend rideout I'd planned. My dealer did first service for free by way of a gesture though. Apparently it was a duff battery!

Considering how deep we have to dig into our wallets for our bikes they should come with at least an Odessey battery or similar!

I'd be measuring the battery holder then looking up which Motobatt would fit......No, you shouldn't have to do it, but a dead bike on a work day and messing around with dealers etc has got to be worth the 80 quid or so to stick a decent AGM battery in.

I think the OEM batteries are AGM and should be well up to the job.

BMW came out tonight. He suggested the problem could be that I left a accessory cable plugged into the DIN socket (although cable was not attached to any accessory) He started bike I went out for 15min he ran battery check and all looked good. Im not convinced though ... a cable not attached to anything is just an extension to the DIN ... He agreed so its going into dealer tomorrow for diagnostic hook up as he didn't have the cable !! ... TBH will not settle unless battery is replaced going on 4000mile trip in just over a week and not having a nagging doubt in my mind every morning !!

So the BMW chap came out ... got it started off jump pack then took out for 20min spin before putting battery checker on and all came back as a good battery. I had a accessory cable on the DIN plug but no accessory he thinks that has drained battery must say Im not convinced as if it has nothing connected its just an extension to the DIN plug ... Anyway on the AC BMW the DIN did not work with ignition off i guess the LC one is opposite I need to check. Anyway taking it down to dealer tomorrow they have agreed for new battery as Im off on 4000m trip in just over a week and not having nagging doubts every morning ....

Sorry just realised Ive double posted similar comment .... Im new on here ;)

Mine flattened the battery when it was a few days old. After a recharge, it's been fine since and wasn't even connected to an Optimate whilst stood over winter.

I can only put it down to the Tomtom cradle still being connected to the DIN power socket :nenau
