Went to start it, and red flashing light and nothing else?

Bike literally has 400 miles on it :nenau

Did Not have spare key with me to start it :blast

Surely it cannot be the battery?

It could be extraneous signal causing interference, there were reports of bike refusing to start near fylingdales.

Just stick the fob under the fender like the emergency key, it will do the same thing, then you will know if is the battery dead.

I have experienced this a few times. Push it a metres down the road and try again or wait a while and try. Only ever happened to me twice but both times I was away. Never happened to be during daily use at home.

The fob works under the seat but the bike doesn't start unless its out of gear this way??

I was parked on a fekking hill

I've run it around town and still nish.

Have you tried the old fashioned disconnect the battery for a few minutes, and then reconnect, maybe some gremlin in there.

stick a new battery in the fob,cr 2032 iirc, always worth doing the simple things first

Being able to start the engine means that the computer part of keyless ride works, while the radio signal between the FOB and the bike does not.

Prior to the battery going totally dead there will be a warning that warns against low battery.
However, if the battery in the FOB loses connection all together for some reason, such as moisture or what ever, the warning will never occure since the warning requires a radio connection.

If the warranty for the bike is still valid I would bring the bike to the dealer. If that is not convenient I would simply replace the battery, and checking the battery connectors for moisture or corrosion while at it. For instance, keeping the FOB in a moist pocket may be enough to cause a problem..

Disconnected the battery then waited a while, reconnected and still nothing.
New battery in fob also.

BMW assist on their merry way.

The same

Mine started doing this after only a couple of months. Initially it started with the TFT giving a message as I slowed down. It would say “The remote key is out of range. If you stop the engine the bike will not restart”. I would clear the message, and it would start ok. I took it back to the dealer, and they could not find a fault, so I just carried on with it. Last week I came away for a trip around Europe, and while waiting to board the eurotunnel I went to start the bike. Nothing but a flashing red light on the TFT. After several attempts it started. I have since spent four days travelling through France to meet up with the wife on the south coast. It has done the same thing several times now, so I called BMW “International Rescue”. To be fair, they arrived at the hotel within two hours. Unfortunately, we could not replicate the fault. I suggested that they take it to the dealership as I am here for a week, and they could investigate. This was declined. I am leaving here on Saturday and meeting up with a friend to do The Alps. Let’s just hope it keeps going! It will be getting returned to the dealer at home when I get back, and I don’t want it back until it is fixed. Not what you expect from an 18K BMW (or perhaps it is)

Just tried again and now it starts?
Going to take it to the dealers tomorrow.

Bmw assist sent someone who was clueless with bmw' s so of no help really.

You should make sure that you report that back to them when they send you a Customer Satisfaction request
