Had a quick search on here but not turned up anything..

Just tried to take my screen off and couldn't undo one bolt. Just kept spinning. The brass insert had become loose in the plastic housing (or the bolt was too tight for the weak plastic/brass mating). Got it off but had to pop the brass inner out.

Crap design if you ask me as the same thing happened to one on the beak when I was fitting HID ballasts!

Anyone done a repair that works and what did you use? I was thinking of Araldite. Obviously has to be strong..

Don't fancy replacing the whole front as it's a big job not to mention expensive (unless anyone got one lying around cheap!)

Cheers

I've actually just done this same repair on mine this evening. All I did was superglue the brass bit in and run a bolt with a 10mm nut and washer on it to pull it in tight.

After a few minutes took the bolt out and assembled it all back together, using a nice dollop of copper grease on the threads this time :)

Araldite would be much better than superglue - it's gap filling and much more resistant to vibration.

I had exactly the same thing happen with one of the headlight surround fixings on my 1100. I blew the hole in the plastic out to remove all the plastic 'dust' and cleaned it and the bush with meths then coated the bush with araldite and pushed it in.

If it's a blind hole with the bush inserted from the front, install a (greased) screw into the bush before you insert the gluey bush into the plastic. This will make sure that glue isn't forced back down the bush threads by hydraulic action (if this happens you'll never get the screw back in). It's a good idea to do this even if the bush isn't blind or is installed from the rear :thumb2

Fair enough but I've been making stuff from epoxy composites for years and I trust how it works (and have got pots of the stuff at home although I used plain old araldite for this job) - I don't have any specialist gap filling, vibration tolerant cyanoacrylates and I certainly wouldn't use plain old superglue in this case. Why make life complicated :nenau

Got some araldite today, so I will give that a go tonight. If that doesn't work, I will try westonuk's products.

Cheers for the advice/suggestions.
