Lots of bods take their iPods and MP3 players on holiday, then endure the tinny sound out of the inbuilt speaker. Or they want a few sounds in a room at home with no speakers.

For those that want something that sounds a bit better than stones rattling iaround in a empty bKed bin tin, I can recommend a Baven 600.

A decent enough sound, fully Bluetooth compatible, decent battery life, mains re-chargeable, jack plug input for non-Bluetooth devices. Small enough not to take up too much room on a bike or in hand luggage. Cheaper than a Jawbone, the old market leader.

Worth a look and buy with confidence.

i have a 625

it's nowhere near as good as some of the amazon reviews suggest, but it is very impressive for the size.

i bought it to replace a little altec lansing unit that i take on trips, and it is a big improvement on that, though it is larger and a lot dearer.

i'm mostly using it at home, bluetoothed to my macbook where it improves the sound greatly. be aware though that delay in the BT throws the sound out of sync with video, so wired connection pays dividends there. sound quality is slightly better wired too.

Cookie is about right :thumb2

For sure it's not as good as B&W Zeppelin or some of the other (much larger )speakers. But for something easily moveable it's pretty good. I use mine from an iPad in the kitchen, where there is not much room, where it is great for tunes or just listening to the wireless.

If anyone trips over this thread, looking for ideas for a cheaper Bluetooth compatible speaker to take away on a bike or in hand luggage, then have a look at the Jawbone, too. I prefer the 'cleaner' sound of the Braven, but some might prefer the 'louder' sound of the Jawbone.

And the Logitech

The Logitech is fine for hotel rooms (paticuarly if using one of the many excellent apps to pick up UK radio broadcasts) and say camping, if you just want a bit of sound. It's a bit smaller and a bit plasticky but lighter (and much cheaper) than the Braven, so might fit the bill. I take one on business trips where it's good enough for use in hotel rooms.

Another recommendation is the Altec Lansing iM500.

I've had mine a couple of years now and it goes everywhere with me. With my iPhone played through it I use it for radio and stored music.

Dead small (about the size of 4 iPhones placed side by side and twice the thickness of an iPhone) it takes up very little room. Mains or battery powered. Obviously no Bluetooth as it's a docking station.

The best thing though is the quality of sound, very impressive from such a small unit and more than enough for a hotel room or even outside camping :)

I think I paid about £70 for mine but Amazon are currently doing them for £19.99 :thumb2

this is the one i have been using for a few years. sound's ok, and it goes loud enough for a hotel room and only £16.

i've found both the altec and the braven are very much affected by positioning.

the altec likes to be propped up in it's carrying case at 45° and the braven really needs to on some sort of stand to hold it off any flat surface.
