Break callipers - what size bit?

Can someone tell me what size torx bit I need to remove the break calliper bolts?

Nope, mine was early model with Brembo's so it has Allens

T45 for front/ Rear calipers

T25 for rear ABS sensor

WARNING

Normally you must order a T45 extra as they don't come in normal sets, the biggest being T40. It even looks like the T40 fits, it doesn't you will round the bolt off .

He's loosened it for me... but I need to buy a T45 before i continue

One other thing...

I've now got the bolts off and the calliper 'slides' around the edge of the disc but it's resisting being lifted up and off completely as it were

Am I missing a retaining clip/bolt or something on the calliper that's gripping the disc or do I just need to give it a good yank upwards?

Assuming you've taken off hte ABS (if you have one) sensor (and both torx bolts)... gently tilt /push carrier forward and backwards to coax the pads apart... then if should lift right up.

The T45 bit will also come in handy at service time as you need it to adjust your end float before doing your valve clearances.

Halfords sell torx bits both singularly and as a set.

Just remember to do them one at a time, not both together

And another thing about fitting cast wheels on a GS = Be very very careful not to so much as breathe on or even look at the bike while it's parked up on the centre stand........... Because it will roll off it.

I didn't even think about that - wonder if it's worth buying a second-hand centre stand and cutting it down slightly.

I have to park in central London, so need to use the side-stand to squeeze into small spaces.

Been there done that , took a lot of effort and a big trolley jack to get the lady off the ground , didnt want to make a even bigger prat than i was .
