A friend of mine is already off from Athens for a 3 days trip, today he had a coil breakdown (second in 1 year) on his 1150 GSA...problem is...he is a few hundred Km's away from civilization...and we need to find a solution until Tuesday (Monday is a holiday here), so my main question...would it be ok if he rode on 3 coils for around 200Km's? or we need to employ something different? (like send the coil to the nearest village on Tuesday?).

I thought there were only two coil sticks? And the bike will run with just one working albeit a bit rough... no idea if this causes much damage though. Perhaps someone more clever will add...

I am talking about the twin spark model (mine is a single spark) dunno if the lower sticks do have coils, so If this was a mistake (running on 3 coils) let me rephrase on 3 sparks...

I assume one of the main coil caps has failed ?

Usually no problem riding with it failed, lots of people do without knowing :D

BUT, they can overheat and cause the wiring attached to them to catch fire, or the caps themselves will bubble up and melt and cause a right mess.

For riding a long distance with a failed cap i'd be tempted to unplug the wiring from the cap end.

Thanks mate!
Yes the main coil has failed, luckily the temperatures in Greece tomorrow will remind North Europe, so I am calling him to unplug the cap and move on.
