Hello and happy new year!

Try to search, but not find.
Next summer I need heavier luggages in my XC. What is better solution, weld original frame stronger ( I remember, see pictures here???) or buy steelframe, where?

Hot Rod welding do a steel subframe, sorry cant help with the strengthening of the original alloy,

And happy New Year to you as well:thumb2

Ileumi,

I had my rear subframe reinforced by a local welder. And then rode 8000 miles across the US with a giant loop coyote and 40l roll bag strapped to the top, with no issues.

Pinkytiff also did the same trip and ran a standard subframe, but also used hotrod welding's pannier frame, along with Adventure spec Magadan panniers. Just check the bolts regularly where the pannier rack bolts into the subframe.

This looked like a much better option than the luggage i chose. It certainly carried the weight much lower, and this had a huge effect on the handling i think.

Thanks. I have to think what I really need?

First, I understand that original subframes are quite strong. Maybe, using HUGE banana-luggages, then subframe can be stressed?

Now I use TT-steel pannier tracks and Wolfman too small expedition bags. About those pannier tracks, I think part of the force is directed bottom of subframes on attachment point.

So new question is: If I use pannier tracks with large side-luggages and small rollbag, will I need stronger subframe?

IIRC the welding work cost me about £60 on my rear rack from a local welder. My rack wasn't showing any signs of cracking, but i wanted to make sure it wouldn't fail on the TAT.

In answer to your question i think your subframe would be fine, but if you can get it braced, then i would suggest you do. For the work involved it is an easy insurance option against breakage.
