Far be it for me to buck the trend here but I'm just about to fit my new tank out and wondered, is there any reason I couldn't make the breather hoses that run through the tank a bit longer so as to make the removal of the sender unit for future filter changes a lot easier, in so much as the longer hoses allow the whole sender plate to be removed from the tank without undoing the breather hoses?

It's not as if the extra amount of hose required to do this would take up acres of space in the tank. Or is there another reason I'm just not seeing? Or am I just being lazy?

I guess if the hoses were too long, there's a possibility they could kink in the tank and seal themselves off? :nenau

You can remove the sender plate from the tank with the normal length hoses .

I've never had to undo any hoses when i replace a fuel filter.
