Does anyone know.................
If I can buy grips for heated handle bars separately from the hot bit. Dealer said I have to buy whole thing, heated elements and all. Doesn't sound right to me. I'd rather gaffer up the holes than spend out on new elements when the current ones are fine.

If I can buy Brembo caliper pistons individually? I had an accident when levering back a seized piston with a screw driver over the weekend. I put a hole in the (high carbon?) insert that goes against the pad. Mistake learnt! Will use wood and clamps next time :D Fixed with trusty Chemical Metal but I'd like to replace with new part long term. Second hand would be fine if anyone knows for one?

Thanks in advance for your advice :thumb

you get the pistons when you buy a seal kit from the dealer, grips, you can peel the rubber grip off the element, and repair the element with a bit o solder, then purchase your favorite aftermarket £5 grips and douse the inside of the rubber with hairspray [yes hairspray] and slide on

Job done

Is the wiring moulded into the rubber grip somehow? Just seems bonkers that to replace the cheap wearing item you have to also fit the expensive non wearing item too.
I'll be popping to the local shop for some grips then :thumb

the grips are lightly glued to the element, they dont take much seperating, just be crefull you don't tear the waxed paper that holds the element onto the bars

I didn't think you could get a seal kit for the Brembo's anymore. Usual stuff about fear of being sued if the punter re-assembles it wrong. I think it was back in 1996 when a seal started leaking on the K1 that I had, I ended up buying a second hand caliper from SPG.

I got one a couple of weeks back from RGM, non evo 1150gs so it's not a problem.

Buy 2 right hand grips to replace the heated grip rubbers. Got mine from Sherlocks @ £4.50 each. Unfortunately before I did the job the left hand side packed up. Checked the white plug (Plenty of WD40 but to no avail. Any other suggestions welcomed.

It's usually the left hand side that fails, due to being pulled on every time the bike is put onto the main stand.

AFAIK brembo stopped selling seal kits for their 4 pot calipers years ago but bmw continued to make them available.

Moto Bins also sells the grips you need, as Flipfly said you want 2 right hand side grips. Part No from Motobins is 61036. If your very careful you can peel back the old grip and cut it away as its only glued at the edges. take care not to damage the thin wires in the heated parts underneath. Simply spit on the new grips and slide them on, mine were a very tight fit so I didnt bother to glue them. If you do damage the paper covering the heater wires taking off the old grips stick it back down using nail varnish.

Cheers DD

An easy way to get glued ‘open ended’ grips off is to carefully slip a rod (such as a long thin electricians screwdriver) carefully up the grip between the rubber and the handlebar/element, then roll it carefully around the handlebar. It will break the glue away without doing any damage and help you ease the grip off too.

Hope that helps someone.
