Quick question: what's the best way to remove the handle bar grips without damaging them?

I am trying to take off the left hand handle bar grip. The clutch mechanism mounting on the bar doesn't come off without removing the grip, unlike most modern clutch posts which seam to split in half to remove them from the bar.

soak the grip and bar end in a bucket of hot water for a little while.. the rubber grip will expand and you should be able to pull it off (just dont dunk the switchgear).

Otherwise.. try lube! :augie WD40 sometimes helps!

thanks for the suggestions

Some great suggestions tried several but none of them managed to combat the araldite!!!! like glue used to stick them on :-(

So 2hours of trying - ended up with a pile of bits in the bin.

heyho. I like the brake cleaner idea for on/off in future so usefull learning thread for me.

cheers

Pete,

Cheep hair spray will do a great job and is much cheaper than brake cleaner. Also WD40 works well too.

As you're gonig to be replacing the grips, it's worth noting that if you are fitting heated grips, Oxford heated grips are much better (cheaper too) than the BMW OE fitment.

Can the Oxford grips be wired into the original switch, or do you have to wire the whole Oxford set up into it ?
