Brembo rear brake pads

It seems like only 10 minutes ago I replaced the original rear pads with Brembo items from Motorworks.
Now I find that the outer pad is down to the metal and rather polished. It looks like it’s worn the disc to near the minimum thickness too.

I know I should check them more often but at 16000 miles, the original front pads still have about 4mm on them I’m sure I’m not that heavy footed on the rear!

So it’s rear pad set 3 and a new disc before Alaska 18.

I took out my rear pads because I thought they looked a bit on the thin side and replaced them with a set of Brembo Carbon Ceramic from Motorworks. This was a while ago, but when I last looked, same as you, one pad had worn right down even though they had not done that many miles.

I replaced them with the part worn ones that I took out originally and they are still going strong.

Maybe, something not quite pukka about those pads from Motorworks, which is surprising because their service is usually exemplary.

So do the Brembo ones but not because the brake material is thicker.

Yes I do check them but it would seem the Brembo items need more frequent checking than the original.

I fitted the brembo carbon ceramic pads to the rear, they lasted a 6ooo mile, two week trip round Norway.
Fitted the brembo sintered pads, still ok after 15000 miles but wearing the disc more...

Both genuine Brembo from Motorwerks, Never had nothing dodgy from them.

Brembo confirmed in an E mail last year that their sintered pads are the same spec and fully interchangeable as the ones they supply to BMW, LC models are specced with sintered pads all round .

As for wear at the rear the linked braking has a lot to do with it

Aha, I ordered the non- sintered ones on the assumption that BMW would use an “organic” pad. Many thanks for the info.

Wouldn’t matter, as you cannot get them in the wrong way around, well not unless you fit them with the metal backing against the disc.

Which would mean they wouldn't wear anything like so quickly and this thread wouldn't have been started!

Don't know it's relevant BUT....page 174 of the handbook states :-
Brake-pad material, front.....Sintered metal
Brake-pad material, rear......Organic material.

Yep I must have an "unreal" handbook ....or they just got it wrong in the printing of the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Riders Manual that I was given with the new bike I bought a couple of years ago

Yerbut, BMW did have an issue with early rear pads wearing out too quick and they were replacing them FOC. Maybe they changed over to sintered pads because of this.

I changed my rears on a 15 bike to sintered Brembos from moto works (at 6000 miles) - bike seriously lacked final bite to stop bike on downhill final stop.

Changed to EBC HH from a mate - just as good as originals but these also wear at a similar rate - 6000 miles and there gone

On my 2014 gsa the o.e rear pads were shot well before the 12 month service and replaced FOC ( approx 2,000 miles ).

The second set of o.e BMW sintered pads were replaced with Brembo sintered pads at 3 year old and after a further 12,000 miles (just over 1/2 worn ), the original fronts were still on the bike and only 1/2 worn

EBC organic pads arrived today and now fitted. Less than £20 delivered from motorworks. They’ll do until I fit a new disk and sintered pads........ However......
On my way in to Aberdeen on the train this morning, I thought I would just call BMW to see how much for a set of pads.
“Well sir, we do recommend (read: computer says) replacing all the pins and clips with the pads”
OK so how much?

Quite a leap to infer that Motoworks are dodgy, especially considering the number of threads on here about the short life of rear pads.
