You seem to be a well travelled bunch . .. . .. .. so:

Can anyone recommend some half decent, cheapish accommodation is any of these three cities, idealy where I could leave a couple of bikes without worrying if they'll still be there in the morning.

Using Lonely Planet and internet at the moment, but a couple of recommendations would make life a lot easier.

Thanks for any help.

David

I`ve done that trip (over the Oresund bridge) but dragged my Caravan so cant recommend any accomodation.
I`m posting in reply because if I was doing it on a bike I`d go to the top of Denmark and take the ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand as the trip from Malmo to Oslo is a bit boring.
Just my opinion of course

Dave,

Thanks for the tip, I was thinking about taking the ferry (and I will on the return) but I just thought it would start us off in a different part of Norway and would a bit of variety to the trip.

Also cost to drive it looks to be about the same as to Hirtshals and take the ferry, which surprised me a bit.

From memory that trip only got interesting a few miles short of the Norwegian border but then I really enjoy mountain scenery and find the flatlands somewhat dull.
The trip from Kristiansand to Oslo was great from the first yard.

In Scandinavia they have extended Youth Hostels to Family hostels.

We have stayed several times at the Hostel in Copenhagen. It is only about 2 miles from the town centre - walk, ride or take the bus. Have single, double and family rooms and inexpensive.

Hostels in Sweden and Norway too. In some parts, you can actually rent a log cabin with all facilities within the Family Hostel site.

In Copenhagen and Oslo take advantage of the City Pass. Gives unlimited public transport and entrance to various museums, etc.
