After listening to the news over the last week about the lack of british aircraft carriers, can anyone tell me what is happening to the carrier that has been sitting in Rosyth dock yard for the last couple of years?

I was under the impression that it was getting refitted, but with there being no more sea harriers, has work stopped on the ship?

soon to be refitted....

was waiting till after the elections so the Scottish Government could decide on the colour scheme for the new Scottish Navy ships .

The F.e.b.'s are shutting down everything Lossie, Leuchars and Kinloss yesterday

but still manage to take the same amount of tax's

mind you a small price to pay :flag

Thanks to missmanagement by a Scotsman drunk on power in the UK....

It HMS Illustrious, Arc Royal and Invincible have been decommissioned. She is due to return to see on the 3rd of June. What she is going to carry I have no idea, guess it will be Helicopters.
I met Illustrious a few years ago in the Adriatic. It was about 2am in the morning in the middle of a force 11 (about 70 mph winds) and I was on a 55ft gin palace. I never really thought the British carriers were that impressive but feck me they are huge when you are straight of the bow and cant get out the way because of high seas. We eventually passed about 50M of the side when it went strangely quiet with the wind being blocked.

Served on Illustrious in 1982 during the Falklands conflict, fond memories of the following USA East Coast trip on the way back (Puerto Rico, Fort Lauderdale and Philly). Great life for a single man.

Had Illustrious not been sold/or was about to be sold to the Australian Navy when some crisis arose and her services were retained ?

Is that Johnny Oonyack or Johnny Foreigner you're talking about there?

Is Oonyackistan Under threat I suggest a call to arms in support of our comrade in two wheel steedery!

So if that's the Invincible at the knackers yard in Turkey, then the one that's been sitting at Rosyth and is still there today is the Ark, which is what I thought.

My cousin's daughter (not even going to try to work out what she is to me) is serving on her prior to being posted to another ship.
