BRITTANY FERRIES CANCELLED

I believe the unions and management are having another meeting tomorrow so there is still a slight chance the Thursday night crossing to Roscoff might go ahead. I hope.

I hope so, supposed to be sailing from Portsmouth on Friday !!!!

I have just recieved an email that tomorrow night's crossing from Plymouth to Roscoff has been cancelled
So that's 300 miles on some of the most boring roads in Europe to get from North Devon to Dover then another 200 crap miles on top of the original 300 to get to my first stop :(

Save yourself some of those crap miles and go Newhaven Dieppe

I have used Portsmouth and Newhaven in the past Nick and it's nearly as slow to get to as Dover because of the criss cross route. The Ferry departs at 10am which means I need to be there for 9am which means a 4.30am start from my place. Plus the ferry takes at least 2 hrs longer so there is nothing in it really.
I am thinking I will put the bike in the back of my van and drive halfway down France, leave the van there and ride the rest of the way to Santander. A lot more expense and wasted time but shit happens.

Well got as far as Noirt today going quite well but boring, learnt the reason behind buying the GSA cos it's faster than a sports bike :aidan cos I fuel up once to there 4 quite good really passed a group this morning at peage and they never quite managed to catch us up. The road up from Spain has loads of roadworks nothing to stop you but just reducing the speed.

If your van is prefferable to do the first half on, rather than on your bike, maybe you need a different bike :D

Hi Chaps

We've had our Sunday evening Ferry cancelled so are now looking at an early morning blast down France on the Monday. Can anyone recommend any good hotels to stay roughly halfway down or a tad more thats a little more characterful than the Novotel in Bordeaux that I've done before.

Thanks

Simon

Without knowing where you're coming from (assume Calais??) or where you are going (Bordeaux, Nice etc) - it's kind of hard???

Apart from which - just do a search on Booking.com or logis de france websites and enter an approximate area - it's dead easy.

Much more sensible than taking someone's recommendation - then struggling to get there on the first day.

Al

Hi

Apologies, yes we are grabbing the 0750 tunnel and heading towards Pau. Our time in the Pyrenees has been finely planned over the last 12 months but included the damn ferry.

I had visions of someone recommending a stunning Chateaux with fine wine & free women?

Simon

And best to pre book somewhere before you set off cos theres thousands of Brits travelling in either direction at the same time all looking for somewhere to kip :thumb2

Not a Chateau but stayed here several times. Slightly south west of Pau. Out in the sticks and a has a pretty damn good chef. Well the locals flock there of an evening. Wont break the bank either. :thumb2.
