Seems to have increased in price by about 35%

I have booked for Sept/Oct 2026 from Plymouth. £481 return with early bird ticket & cheapest cabin

A whole £6 more than May/June this year.

Portsmouth routes a lot dearer and shit return time of 8pm. Plymouth return arrives at 1pm so plenty of time to ride home in daylight in October.

I wanted to ring to book a hotel but 90 minute wait for calls. I will ring to add a hotel to get the discount once I have decided where I am going in the 2 weeks.

Well, two bike, two people, one 4 berth cabin e/w came in at just shy of £1500 for me...

without the context of the time of year the price is pretty meaningless - if that is for late June/July from Portsmouth then it is what I would expect for 2 bikes.

have you played with the dates/routes? Shifting by a day or two can make a difference, as can shifting to a different port.

Does Brittany Ferries have any periods for getting a discount eg book in November, and get a better rate like DFDS does?

they currently have Early Bird tickets, as I posted above. Book at least 60 days ahead, pay 100% up front. No refunds but can change the date for £20

at some point they usually offer a flexi ticket for the price of a standard ticket, usually over Xmas & New Year.

the biggest discount is to book a package holiday then you get 30% off the ferry cost. This requires you to add at least one night in a hotel. These can be seen at https://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/holidays/search - my discount for Sept this year is effectively giving me a free night in Best Western Saumur.

As Ev posted recently, they sometimes have spot offers if there is capacity at certain times of the year e.g. a 5 day trip to France with hotels for a discounted price.

still over £850 for a portsmouth -> santander crossing, one bike, one person, one cabin, sept 2026

did you compare with Plymouth? The crossings on these new e-flexer ships seem expensive compared to Pont Aven.

Out 23/9 1545, home 9/10 1100, £481 with an early bird ticket

Only one night on board each way

plymouth is ok if you live near there, but it's a right schlep from london, often means getting a hotel in plymoyth before/after the ferry. more ££££, more time

it's a right schlep for me, but only 25 miles further than Portsmouth from Mid Wales

thing is, if you go from Portsmouth, you have a second night on the boat outbound so a night in a B&B is not much different.

The Plymouth ferry means check in by 3pm so I have stayed in Devon now I live further away than Cheltenham. I have a morning in Dart/Exmoor or this year around Dartmouth. Spot of lunch then check in. I prefer this to spending a whole day bobbing about the Ocean. Inbound the ferry arrives at 11am so plenty of time to ride home to London or Mid Wales.

What utter crap .
The ferry generally leaves 1545/1645 so you need to be at Plymouth by 1430 to give you a buffer .

It’s only about a 4 1/2 hour ride from London so even leaving at 0800 will give you two thirty minute stops . Why would you need a hotel ?

I have to come from Guernsey yet still do it one way to save riding through France .

and the ride from london to plymouth is crap. either boring motorway, or rammed smaller roads that take a lot more than 4.5 hours

Where as the ride to Portsmouth is?

No pleasing some people .
If you’re going to Plymouth to catch a ferry then what’s a few hours of motorway just to get there to start a week or two away on amazing roads ?
Or just get the ferry from Portsmouth.
At least you have a choice of two within a few hours .
I have to get a ferry from Guernsey to Poole/Portsmouth then ride down to Plymouth to get to Spain .
