Mmmm the £700 difference between the advertised price and the actual price would go a long way to pay for fuel & hotels there and backI just went on their site and got £1009 for a bike, two people and 2 berth inside cabins (which were compulsory). That’s quite a long way ‘from’ £309.

So it wasn’t a fault with BF being misleading or anything. It just that you rocked up nigh on a month after the offer went live, expecting to get the deal on what is BF’ busiest and probably most profitable routes between UK and Spain. On the dates I put in, all seats were booked, so a banner came up ‘cabins (compulsory on this crossing)’
What’s wrong with holding a 3k deposit? Surely that’s only a hold on your card, against the excess, and you don’t actually pay it. I’ve found most car hire companies do this.I think bods don’t read the small print when these “offers” float up. Booking to go in high season like August for example, will be considerably costlier, not least as this is mentioned in the small print along with an additional surcharge.
Choose a date to travel as per small print, and you will soon find yourself grinning at the screen due to getting that deal.
Small print, as with everything g in life that you sign up for, is worth reading.
Going off on a tangent here…
Wife and I were looking at hiring a car for our trip to Sardinia later on in the year.
Fiat Panda for 7 days £93.00 all in, excellent. Then you read the small print, deposit held of near €3000 on your credit card, further deposit held of €150 in case of failing to return a car with a full tank of fuel. Endless reviews of bods bemoaning that they have been upsold insurance as the one they purchased through their booking isn’t valid, and that they will have to seek to be reimbursed by the booking company, etc.
how many of these bids have actually looked beyond £93.00 and skipped through the list of T&C to tickedI agree box? I suspect one in twenty have actually taken time to read through these. Rest just seen a cheap cost of hiring a motorcar for a week and rubbed their hands in the process, only to be lumbered with an insurance premium at the airport 4x + the value of the vehicle hire they have signed up for.
I remember in 2012 at JFK airport rejecting an hire car, because both nearside tyres had huge bulges in side walls. These were the size of ping pong ball, ripe and ready to blow.
We were told that full inspection was carried out and there is a surcharge to pay for any tyre, etc damage, which made me suspicious. I made sure to go around the vehicle with the rep, pointing out any dings, scrapes and naturally defective tyres, whilst he was ticking the appropriate boxes on his clipboard, all of this has happened before we even put the bags in the car. Consequently we were given another car, purely on the subject and the state of the tyres. I do wonder how many people actually pay attention to such details?![]()
I would think so, but that wouldn’t be when I would like to go.Would changing the dates for a sailing week or two later, make any difference?

Nothing. It just that I know that driving in Italy doesn’t tend to go without somebody bumper parking. So I rather have a smaller value being preauthorised on my CCWhat’s wrong with holding a 3k deposit? Surely that’s only a hold on your card, against the excess, and you don’t actually pay it. Well then, you out of luck it seems.I would think so, but that wouldn’t be when I would like to go.
