Brittany Ferry booking.

[Rugged Path]

I have just paid £268.50 (early bird) for a return ferry for 1 adult & 1 motorcycle.
Mid June; Plymouth-Santander
End July; Cherbourg-Poole.
Outgoing just a recliner.

Three weeks later than my last similar route which was then still hot when camping. Thought about going mid July to catch the Faro rally but, it would be hell.

Unlike Stenaline, there is no discount for seniors with Brittany.

Sat next to a fat sweaty poor person who snores like an asthmatic elephant sealer a smelly hippy on the road to fuckmongtard commune makes the price of a cabin more than worth it.

Perhaps you could take your own sandwiches to share with them

‘I can’t get no sleep’

Thanks to the generosity of a fellow ‘UKGSER’ my slightly discounted trip on Brittany Ferries is here.

Not too early, not too late, the bowels of the Pont Aven beckons.

What a feeling it is to ride down the ramp into the warm underbelly of your host for the night. Of course there is the sharp wake-up call to mind the cables, metal pucks and tie down cushions. An assault course in other words!

Now, the luxury minded of you will of course have booked the Commodore class cabin, with your private sofa and shower. Not me, oh no, I’m solo this time so I’ve taken the budget priced ‘Lounge Chair’ for €7 along with a few other hardy travellers.

There is something special about boats and its passengers compared with air travel. Maybe it’s the time to talk, to share expectations, to roam around.

Well, I can tell you a room full of people in the lounge learned something about each other in the night. I have spent countless hours on plane chairs that recline and support and that was my novice expectation here. Not this time! I couldn’t find a comfy position no matter how hard I tried. The Karma Sutra is nothing compared with the leg positions I entertained to try and sleep. Observing the awkward movements of my fellow room-mates, they felt the same way.

But worse, way worse was the young lady in seat row 1c. Could she snore! All night bellowed the lungs of a hippo. Even her boyfriend got up and moved. So what with the seat and the snoring it was quite the crossing.

I concur but they are really price gauging on cabins now. A monastic cell they call a 2 berth inside cabin with bunks and en suite is £97 one way on Pont Aven. Even worse on the newer boats.
On my outbound date in May, that is £17 more than the cost of the bike transit. June return is dearer for the bike but same cabin cost.

yep they have us over the proverbial but I would sooner pay that than sleep in a recliner next to ( knowing my luck) a 30 stone smelly twat who overflows his or her seat and farts and snores all night.

I think my cabin on pont Aven for next may was about £90 each way but I console myself with the £12.50 each way on board credit and that fags are cheap

My return flight, back of the bus London > Madrid > London was £900 with British Airways. Out Sunday evening, returned Tuesday evening. Both flights were rammed. Admittedly, it was a ‘must have’ LastMinute.Com booking.

The Brittany Ferry prices look steep, until you look at the cost of 40 minutes on the Chunnel in the summer or 90 minutes on P&O. You’d also have to weigh it up against the overall cost of riding / driving down and back up France, from (in my case) Calais.

I never realised that “Why don’t you fuck off, you red nosed cnut” was an approved nautical term. It must be, as the skipper of the yacht I was on, shouted it up to the bloke in charge of the ferry. Happy days.
