My much enjoyed 2004 1200 decided to let a valve drop into the combustion chamber and I am now the proud owner of one totally destroyed left side engine, with a sump full of swarf !!

I have been offered a couple of replacement engines, one from a 2004, so I know it should fit, but I've also been offered a 2008 engine ... my question is, is there even the remotest chance that the 2008 engine will just drop straight in and just work with a 2004 bike ?

Here's hoping, but I'm really not convinced !

back in a few , i will go to shed as i have a 04gs and also 08gs so i will check the front frame mounts as the back is the same.

as far as i can tell the engines are the same
i had an engine blow ot the 04 and two years ago had a choice of an engine with 35000miles or one with 4000miles i picked the higher mileage one for two reasons the value of bike at end and did not want to break another engine in as i just want to ride it hard.

the ecu's from the 08 will not do the 04 as the features are different servo/tps also if you were thinking of changeing the wheels as i did you have to keep the abs censor rings as they have different spaces.
