Travelling with my bro (Timbo) and his ABS has packed in. Syptoms are ABS sets itself initially after setting off. Then after a few seconds, even if not travelling, he gets the slow alternate red brake warning lights. Servos still work.

Three things would help:

1) Nearest Official or Independant dealership to Andermatt.

2) Any obvious checks that can be carried out.

3) Is the bike still safe to ride with this failure? I think it is, he's unsure.

Cheers!!

If the bike runs controllably without cutting out and if the brakes function and stop the bike then I`d be happy to use it.

If the ABS stops working you simply won`t have ABS and I don`t have that on any bike anyway.

As long as there`s not just the marginal 'residual braking' that you get when servos have failed I wouldn`t be too arsed about it.

Things to look at ??
Hmm....check for shite wedged between the teeth in the ABS rings,or a chipped tooth, for starters. :thumb2

Cheers for the link to the dealership.
Have checked for shite on the front ring, as that was our initial suspicion as it first happened at speed going up the sustenpass. However the fault will appear even if stationary after it sets initially. I thought that would rule out the front/rear sensors??

Worth checking the fluid levels. Not sure about the GS but my K1200Rs had 3 top up reservoirs. the back brake one had got low with rear brake pad wear. On the RS the second top up is behind the firat one and partially hidden and initially I missed it. Hopefully someone familiar with the GS will enlighten you. regards Dave

Turned out to be a low fluid level in ABS unit. Motor Centre Schwyz were very good and looked at the bike straight away.

The 1200 was a model of reliability after I put a new rear bulb in - oh and the final drive oil seal that went just before we went + that brake re-call work. :)
