So what size of stone does it take to smash a headlight?

A very small one...

On the plus side, it's not a LED light. It's "only" £261 for a new one....

Refer to previous threads because according to the EXPERTS on the forum the WC models DO NOT need Headlight protectors as they are an unneccessary waste of money and the WC headlights NEVER get smashed because they are almost bullet proof.

Obviously this photograph is a fake

Bloody unlucky unless you are off roading.

What does a replacement LED headlight for a GSA cost ?

There is no headlight protector for the standard headlight:thumb

The led headlight "glass" seems to be a polycarbonate and not glass

from the dark side this was sent

It is, and I'd guess it is for the non-LED light too. On the LC, anyway.

No, the non LED light is definitely glass. Only glass would splinter that way and glow a little when attacked with a Dremel.

I've now removed the rest of the glass and have found a couple of alternative lights to fit in the empty shell until such times as I feel the need to refit an original light.

A few years ago I was having an F800GS MOT'd - during the inspection I was asked how long the headlight glass had been broken? What are you talking about says I? Turns out the glass had taken a whack from a stone when riding the bike in the couple of miles for the MOT. Luckily it was only cracked and not broken like the unlucky OP's.

I'm surprised. I'd assumed glass had been banned from vehicle lights on pedestrian safety grounds. The last modern bike I had with glass headlight lenses was a 2002 Tiger 955.
