Hi All, today, quite unexpectedly my left turn signal switch just gave up. This is on a 2012 model R1200 RT. Its not the bulbs or the flasher unit as the left side indicators and the console light flash ok with the hazards.

Apparently, according to the dealer (Williams) my problem isnt unique and there is a backlog on orders for the switch unit. So ... bike effectively unusable or at least "unroadworthy" until BMW get their act together.

And I was happy enough with the old style switch gear on my 07 GS....

I wouldnt expect this level of reliability from my car, why do BMW think its Ok for bikes ? My 07 GS had 3 recalls, 2 FPC problems and an EWS stranding.

Anyone else had the same problem, i.e. the switch gear ?

SP:mad:

Water ingress on my 05rt also. Fixed by soldering in a replacement micro switch. No issues since.

However, as yours is new, I'd wait for BMW to sort.

it must be the Cheshcester air or water or general northly ness. did you get yours sorted ? I wouldnt fancy riding too far with no indicators...

Finally, yesterday got the new switch fitted. So all in a month off the road. On return home I noticed that the gap between the left side panel over the tank and the tank bag rail was about 5/8ths whereas on the other side its about 1/4in. on further investigation the mech had assembled the L side differently, i.e. pushed the panel under the bracket rather than above the bracket. All fixed now but ....:type
