Damn, Blast, feck feck feck:mad:

I busted my UE in-ear monitors yet again by being a clumsy oaf at work. Wore them with my ipod in a noisy plant room, was rockin out whilst leak checking a chiller and stumbled whilst leant over it. Somehow managed to snag the cable as I went, managed to rip the wires out of the RH earpiece. Bugger, damn etc etc.

They are such an essential piece of kit for me I am really gutted, plus I suspect the techs at UE will be pissed off with having to repair them for me yet again, this is probably the fifth time.:(

Aaaaaaargh:mad::mad::blast:blast:blast:blast

I have a slight reduction in hearing from my former career as a marine engineer hence my concern to not let things deteriorate further and my need for my monitors to get fixed again. I don't think I've managed to get more than 6 months continuous service out of them between failures.:blast

Thanks for the link Snoopy but I don't think the Sony items offer the level of hearing protection I require in my job or on the bike.

I was hoping that someone might know of a rival product that offers similar qualities but is competitively priced and perhaps more robust with good levels of customer service.

Has anyone used Headset Services at Shoreham ??

Why don't you get some earplugs rather than monitors for work, if snagging the cable is a frequent occurrance? Or run the cable inside your shirt?

I think you'll find them just as good. Put it this way today I had no music on (system 5 helmet) a car passed by me the other way at 20-30mph and I couldn't hear it. Try 'em and see it's only a tenner. :thumb

The monitors are guaranteed for a year even if they have been repaired.Mine were out of Warranty, but had been repaired three times,so we agreed a cheaper price for the repair which I think was £25.They have a different system for connecting the cable to the Earplug now and so far theyhave been fine.

Does that include accidental breakage???

I had made a repair myself already to the 3.5mm jack plug as I kept losing one channel, it was a poorly soldered joint which had previously been repaired under warranty.

The damage this time was definitely all my own doing and although an accident theres no way that it was a shortcoming of UE's product, I fell really hard and was surprised the earpiece stayed in my ear such was the force that parted the cable (it even pulled the knotted end of the cable through the earpiece).

If I had been wearing my overalls with the ipod in a breast pocket rather than just a pocketless polo shirt it wouldn't have happened, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.:(

It sounds like you would be better with the air tube type rather than the elecronic cable type. Air tube can be pushed back into the moulded plug. UE now do them, and some one on here name beginning with S does them. HTH

These I fully recommend. :thumb2

I used a pair for a couple of years and they offer great isolation from outside noise while providing exceptional audio quality. Check eBay fro decent prices - they will still cost you between £50 and £70 though.

Be aware though that the 'mushroom' type tips (whatever they are called) while very good need to be replaced every so often. I didn't bother and suffered the consequences. One got stuck in my ear and took 40 minutes in casualty to get removed. I would suggest replacing the tips every three months depending on use.

Opted for some ultimate monitors now. Just waiting for them to be delivered.

'Fraid not

And would have been corrected under warranty had you returned it of that I'm certain and (partly) because of that UE will be taking it in to consideration with this repair so my discussions lead me to believe this morning.

Andy, I Will get them returned by post this weekend and see what the repair cost will be.

The jack plug was an intermittent fault which probably didn't show itself when the UE engineer tested them but happened again shortly after I got them back so I fixed it myself. They were working perfectly after that and I was a very happy bunny for months until I snagged the cable at work and broke the monitors.

A great product let down by the end user - me.:blast
