Hi all, I Have the black pannier set for my 1100gs one of the red locks which stop the panniers being removed has snapped off.

Has any one ever had to change the red cast part if so can you give me some advice on how to do this??

Regards

Hi Buddy done that kit is available at £28.00 but dont know how to get to the parts in the pannier:nenau

I expect that you have to drill out the rivets that hold the locking mechanism on and then work it from there. They also sell a rivet kit....:augie

I think your right rivets do come with the kit just hoped someone had already gone through it and had taken some pictures LOL well you can but hope!!

I drilled the rivet heads off, then tapped the lock bracket and used small bolts to remount "just in case" so to speak. The lock mech is pretty fiddly and i think that your prob is easier than the mounting mechanism... Good luck:thumb2

While you play around replacing the broken flag, take time to modify the lock so it can be left unlocked and key removed,

Now you will be less likely to be the victim of BMWs pension fund

When mine broke I could not bring myself to pay £20+ for a a little broken flag replacement. So I took the lock apart and made one from stainless steel, after about 5-6 hours filing, lathe work, welding and fettling, I had a bright shiny stainless one that wont break like the flimsy cast? alloy one. The £20 or so started to look good value! b*gger! I suppose I will contribute to BMWs pension fund if I break the next one.
